A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.
Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Scythe is an AMAZING book. It was very different to any other book I’ve read, and I think that was one of the reasons I really enjoyed it. It has a dystopian theme, with a bit of fantasy and sci-fi mixed in. The book itself is about a society which has conquered death. This is why Scythes were created. A scythe’s job is to glean (kill) people, so the population growth stays under control.The book is in the perspective of two scythe apprentices, and their journeys to becoming a scythe. This book has a few great plot twists, and is very unpredictable, so you will never know what’s going to happen next! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would highly recommend it. I would rate it a 9/10.

A book that I’ve loved over lockdown this year was ‘The Scythe’. The book has a great concept and is really interesting. It is about two teens set in a world where the only way that you can die is if you get gleaned by a scythe. It is thrilling and unique and very intriguing. I rate this book an 8/10.

What if death was the only thing left to control…
SCYTHE is a book that you’ll never forget. In an ever-nearing future, the only way to die is to be ‘gleaned’ by a scythe. A person that stands out more than a flame in the darkness with their colourful cloaks and rings. When Citra and Rowan become scythe apprentices their lives change forever, in more ways that one. No sane human aims to be a scythe but that is what makes Citra and Rowan perfect for the role. They have to learn all the arts of killcraft, assist their mentor Scythe Faraday in his daily gleanings and attend the conclaves three times a year.
And then they find out, one of them will have to glean the other.
