The blog for books and movies

Born with several genetic abnormalities, 10-year-old August Pullman, called Auggie, dreams of being “ordinary.” Inside, he knows he’s like every other kid, but even after 27 surgeries, the central character of “Wonder” bears facial disfigurations so pronounced that people who see him for the first time do “that look-away thing” — if they manage to hide their shock and horror.

“Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse,” he says of his face as the book begins. He’s used to the stares and mean comments, but he’s still terrified to learn that his parents have gotten him into middle school at Beecher Prep and want him to go there rather than be home-schooled. But they persuade him to give it a try — and by the time this rich and memorable first novel by R. J. Palacio is over, it’s not just Auggie but everyone around him who has changed.

Wonder is a very emotional novel. It is written by R.J Palacio. Wonder isn’t based on a true story but it is based off a real life incident that the author and her two sons once experienced with a young girl with a cranial facial disorder. Wonder is a story of a 10 year old boy named August Pullman, who has a facial disorder. He is just a normal kid who plays Xbox, loves Star Wars and space, but despite the 27 operations done to his face he will never look like an ordinary kid. I think you will need a few tissues with you whilst reading this book it is quite sad at times. Overall, this book is fantastic and one of the best books I have ever read and would completely recommend it.

I read wonder by R.J. Palacio. My favourite character in the story was Summer because she always saw the good in people and brought Auggie and Jack Will together again. I would recommend this novel to people who around 12 to 13 it is a coming of age book I would say. I would definitely read the next book Auggie and me I really loved how it was like real life and how school actually is I also really like the different perspectives of the different characters.

Wonder was such an inspirational and exciting book. It follows a young boy named Auggie who goes through high school for the very first time. He goes through many ups and downs. I really enjoyed the part of the book when Auggie was getting toured around the school by Jack-Will, Julian and Charlotte. This is because it was great to see the new characters introduced to the book. Looking at their personalities. My least favourite part of the book was when Jack-Will talked behind Auggies back. You could sense the emotion and sadness Auggie had felt at that moment. It made it hard for me to read on as this scene impacted on Auggies life.

I love this book soooo much, I have read this book multiple times. The book has a really strong message, ‘It doesn’t matter what people think about you!’ My favourite part about the book is when Auggie is taking the tour around the school. This part in the book just shows what Auggie is really feeling which shows more about his characteristics. I would recommend this Book to anyone and every one, especially the year 7’s and 8’s. This book is an 11/10 because I could relate to how he was feeling in some sort of way. Give this book a go, you wont want to put it down!

This was the book that my grade six class read and it was amazing. A moving and inspirational story about how you should’t judge anyone based on appearances alone. It’s about a young ten year old boy named August Pullman born with several facial deformations making him look just a little different. We follow his journey through his first year of school and watch him make friends and enemies, stand up to bullies and his confidence grow. I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to anyone in search of a good read.

I would recommend this book Wonder. It was so interesting and brought me tears. This book would be really good someone who loves sad books and something inspirational to read. This book is about a boy who doesn’t stop living his dreams and keeps on going he is so persistent with whatever he is doing, he has a deformed face and doesn’t like to show it but more and more into the book he gets more and more confident with showing people his face. This moral of this story is to not judge people on the way they look like or how someone dresses it’s what their personality is like. i would 10/10 recommend this book to anyone who loves sad books and a good story that is really intriguing. i rate this book a 10/10

  8. The story of Wonder is an amazing read! This book also brought me on the edge of tears in many parts, as the story of Auggie is so inspiring but so sad at the same time. Wonder is about a boy named Auggie who was born with a deformed face, and though it never stopped him from trying to live a normal life, Auggie had to grow up facing bullying and exclusion from the other kids at school. Something I love about this book, is the moral and message behind it. Wonder is all about teaching others, and the reader not to judge people or anything by what you see, and that you have to get to know someone better in order to judge them. Because even if there is something not so nice on the surface, there is always good underneath. Overall I would recommend this story to anyone who wants to be inspired, or moved by a text. I would also recommend watching the movie after reading the book as I think it represents and portrays the book perfectly.

This book — Wonder — is what my class read in Year 5. We laughed, cried and sat on the edge of our seats as we read it as a class. This book is about August Pullman’s story. He is a boy with a ‘deformed’ face, and we join him on his journey through his first day of (middle) school ever. We see all of his friends, enemies, bullies, and family members. The ups and downs he faces are all too realistic and relatable at times. To anyone who is facing dysmorphia, I highly recommend this book (and the movie, afterwards!), but you’ll need a tissue… Or three. We were all so invested in Auggie’s story, and rightfully so, as this was beautifully written and really induced emotions in me.

  10. It is one of the most moving books I have read in a long time, the theme of the book is that we can all choose kindness, and this theme is developed through amazingly honest and poignant portrayals of middle school and high school social dynamics and family dynamics. The author excels at showing not telling. It never feels preachy or overdone, or like an issue advocacy book. But the messages are there loud and clear: Being nice is not the same as being a friend, doing the right thing often costs you something but it’s worth it, everyone has something to be grateful for, peer pressure makes you stupid, but it’s never too late to change your course, we all need people who love us unconditionally.
The book was convicting, laugh out loud funny, truthful, hopeful, and heart-warming.
I would give its book a 9/10 and really think others should give this book a go.

This book is truly a blessing and provides a heart-wrenching insight into the life of one boy with a deformed appearance and disability.
As the writer brings on the setting of a much familiar school yard, and the struggles of children growing into the teenage years, and the difficulties we all face of bullies, grades and friendships.
Although Auggie was born with a deformed face, this doesn’t stop him from being truly himself and expressing his bright personality to all.
This book brought tears to my eyes, and a beaming smile to my face…

‘Wonder’ is one of the best books I have ever read. It is so heart-touching and is incredibly hard to put down.
It is about a boy called Auggie who has a facial deformity and is about to start school. He has been home schooled all of his life and has never been to an actual school. At first he doesn’t want to start school but his parents think it would be good for him. When he starts, he gets bullied because of how he looks and gets called names such as ‘freak’ but along the way he meets some true friends who love him for who he is.
This book is told from a few different perspectives which I love because you get to see what is going through other people minds and see their view on things. It shows you that the are many sides to a story and all of them are important and have something to tell.
My favourite character in the book would probably be Summer. Summer is one of Auggie’s friends and I think that she is a really kind and loving person. One day she is eating lunch with her friends who are making fun of Auggie who was eating alone, and she decides to go sit with him. She doesn’t care what Auggie looks like and really wants to be friends with him. She is a really genuine person and really cares for Auggie and thats why I like her.
I would definitely recommend this book for people who like heart-touching stories and books that can make you smile, cry and laugh all in one.

  13. The book wonder is probably one of my all time favourite books. I just completely fell in love with this book when I read it. It tells the story of August Pullman who has a severe facial deformity. It tells his journey of starting school and what he faces. Auggie is so strong and the reason I love this book is because i’ve never read anything like it and I would have no idea what it’s like for people like Auggie if it weren’t for this book. Then throughout the book it changes perspective between his sister Via, his friend Summer, his friend Jack will, Via’s boyfriend and Via’s best friend Miranda. I love the changing of perspective throughout the book because it gives a wider view on a senario or scene . My favourite character is Via because she is the person you don’t think about but she has her own problems too. She is strong and caring towards Auggie but nobody ever realises she is suffering too. I would rate this book a 10/10 and recommend it to 10+.

I defiantly feel bad for Auggie because he gets bullied for having a deformed face but he is actually a really nice kid!

  17. Wonder is an all time classic novel that should definitely be read by everyone, of all ages! It follows the story of August “Auggie” Pullman who is a young boy with a facial deformity, who has to face the challenges of attending real school for the first time, a place where people are quick to judge and choose to turn away when they see him, rather than being kind and getting to know the beautiful person that he is on the inside. This coming of age story is inspiring and is one that has many lessons to teach its reader, which are highlighted by the precepts that Auggie’s teacher, Mr Brown, shares daily with his class. One of these is “When given the choice to choose between being right and being kind, choose kind” and this forms the basis of the story as a whole. Auggie is an amazing kid with an incredible amount inner strength and resilience and for this, he is a charter that ever reader will immediately fall in love with. However personally some of my favourite characters are Jack Will and Summer, as they are some of Auggie’s first friends, with whom he becomes really close and develops a meaningful relationship with. I think it is also important to acknowledge Auggie’s older sister Via, who sadly often falls behind the shadows as the world tends to revolve around Auggie. She is an incredibly selfless character who shows so much love for her brother and it is fascinating to read the chapters which come from her point of view. Overall, Wonder is a novel (and now a movie too!) that will be of value to anyone who takes the time to read it so I definitely recommend that you do, there is no doubt you will fall in love with it!

I loved this book! It had many emotions and makes you cry, laugh and smile. It is about an 11-year-old boy called Agustus who unfortunately has a physical disability. He has been homeschooled his entire life but this year he has decided it’s time to go to school. When he arrives at school (as you would think) everybody stared at him. The principal had given three kids the job of being Agustus’s buddy or ‘friend’ for the first week of school. At first, the year was hard and average it rapidly got much better and all of a sudden people stopped caring about what was on the outside, and what was on the inside. Then all of a sudden school became very hard for Auggie because his supposed best friend talked behind Auggies back, and said something not so nice. I rate this book an 8 out of 10 and I recommend this book to anyone that loves a sad book and is above the age of 8.

This book was one of the best books that I have read and I was obsessed . From previous books that I have read there is no character and heart but there is so much of that in this story. In some points yes, we do feel bad for August (Auggie) and in some points we can relate. He goes through many stages of bullying such as being called names like “the freak”, people point and staring and ghosting him. Sometimes you just have to stop and think: What would it be like to be in Auggie’s shoes? One thing that I found very clever is that the author gives little parts for each character in this story so that all the characters have a different perspective. A thing that I want to talk about is Julian, known as the “bully”. A first I was thinking that he was bullying just doing this for fun and being very cruel when he was leaving horrible notes in Auggie’s locker for no reason. But I think Julian is misunderstood as most bullies are. Maybe Julian is not a bully at all and he just needs to get his feelings out. Although I don’t agree with what Julian has done to Auggie.
I really liked the author’s word choice and plot. This is a very moving story and it is a must read. I would give this book a 10/10. This book was phenomenal in my opinion.

I love Wonder! It is my favourite book and I love the movie as well. Auggie isn’t like other kids. He has experienced tougher situations than most people will ever experience. This is what makes the book so special. August has facial deformities which sets him apart from other kids. When he attends school for the first time he is bullied and made to feel alone. Eventually, he makes a new friend called Jack. Their relationship is really special because Jack came to realise that you cannot judge a book by its cover. Jack and August help each other out and are always there for each other. August is struggling with the stresses of middle school along with the struggles of bullying due to his appearance. August is a very loveable character with a big heart and a lot of courage. The book is emotional and compelling. It is a beautiful, devastating and thought-provoking book with a strong message. I rate it a 9.5/10!!

Wonder really made me think of how lucky I have it and makes me think twice about everything I say to my peers. I liked the book more than the movie which is weird for me as I normally love movies way more but I just thought that it was more detailed and interesting. I found that the movie cut out some of my favourite parts from the book and witch was a bit disappointing. I loved Wonder and would give it a 1000/10 if I could.

This book is great and would rate this book a 10/10

i definitely recommend this book wonder for anyone who is looking for something to read. this book had a really strong meaning to it and the movie even made me cry. this book is about an ordinary kid named august pullman. he is an ordinary kid on the inside but on the outside he looks a little bit different than other kids. Every where he went he would get stared at and he would know when people did it. it would not be easy to be august because he has to get los of surgeries and has a hard time starting school. august was a really nice and caring kid but people didn’t like him just because of his looks. he got through his challenges and achived a lot by making new friends and getting an award at the end of his school year.

This book sends a really nice message out to everyone who reads it, and in the book it said ” if you have to choose between being right or being kind choose kind” and i thought that that was really good.
i’d definitely rate this book a 10/10 for sure!

  50. Wonder is truly a beautiful story. One that definitely tugs at the heartstrings. This book brought me to tears the second I read the first chapter. Wonder is a story about a little boy named August, who was born with a deformed face, starting school for the first time. This story showcases the ups and the downs of him trying to fit in. I first read this book last year, but it is still one of my favourites to this day. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys stories with inspiring quotes and are also happy and sad. I would rate this book a 10/10

Wonder is such a beautiful book. I love this book because it touches my heart in so many different ways. It made me smile, laugh and cry. In the first few chapters you will fall in love with the main character Auggie, and connect with him even though you cannot relate to his situation at all. My favourite part of the book is the very end, (Awards night). When I was on that last chapter, it made me smile and think about how brave and how far Auggie had came through out that whole year. My favourite character is Summer, because she is one of the kindest characters to Auggie, and she is just such a sweet, loving and caring person in general. I don’t have a least favourite part of the book, although if I did it would have to be when the book brought me to tears. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an inspirational and realistic book. If you like sad movies and books with a happy ending, then Wonder is definitely for you.

I think that wonder is a wonderful book and I think the book has a wonderful message that you should never judge a book by it’s cover. this book made me cry because I felt so bad for August how he got bullied and judged just because of what he looked like. I could not put this book down. I am so glad that he kept his head high and kept trying even if some things didn’t go to plan. he is a role model. my favourite part was at the end because they started to get to know him for who he is and not for what he looked like.

His mum Isabel asks him one day if he wanted to go to school. August says yes to his mum but is extremely nervous because he thinks he will get judges by the other kids. His mum buys him a space helmet and he wears it to his first da. This book is probably one of my favourite books because your get to learn a lot about kids like August deal with deformities and how his family and friends help him through it all. I recommend this book for people who like sad but inspiring books!! I rate this book a 10/10!!!

Wonder, is a beautiful story about choosing kind and never judging a book by it’s cover. This book brought me to tears last year when I read it for school. August (Auggie) is such an inspiring character, who teachers all readers to carry on being happy no matter what. I personally adore Isabel (Auggie’s) mum. She is so sweet and I love how helpful and patient she is towards him. The way this novel is written makes you feel somewhat like your experiencing what the other characters are. Which is amazing, I don’t think many books have made me feel like that.
10 out of 10 recommend, just remember this book is for sure a tear jerker.

The book wonder is a very sad yet happy book to read, the reason why i like the book so much is because it shows you that you dont have to be someone else to fit in no matter what. My favourite part in the book is when August goes to his graduation and everyone has finally excepted him in who he is, that bit in the book brought me to tears. My least favourite part in the book would be when August gets bushed over and loses his hearing aids that is the most saddest thing ever. i would definitely recommend this book to other people maybe between the ages of 5-15, because i think that is the gap when you start to experience that sort of thing.

For most his life, he was homeschooled by his mother, but for the first time, Auggie’s parents recommend him to go to real school for the first time, where he would be attending Beecher Prep Middle School. Frightened, but excited to make a couple new friends, August goes to his first day of school, preparing for one of the biggest days of life. Worse comes to worse, when as soon as he enters the school grounds, forcing himself to keep his head down, feeling the eyes of every child, student and adult follow his every single move. He can’t help being diverse, after all, everyone is in their own unique way. Luckily, Auggie makes a new friend, called Jack-Will. They become the bestest of friends, and school doesn’t seem to scary after all. That was until halloween, when everyone was wearing costumes and masks, you cannot tell who is who. August is covered in his bleeding scream, and happens to hear his only friends talking negatively about him being his back to other classmates. This book is based on 4 parts from 4 different perspectives. This is an incredibly touching story, because it teaches the reader that it doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside the truly counts the most. Just because someone might not look “normal’, doesn’t give one the right to judge, because it honestly just shows that that person is not worth spending time or even talking too. I believe everyone’s different, and it’s important that we embrace that. I’d give this book a 5 star rating because it has a beautiful message behind it and anyone who is interested would really enjoy it

I loved this book! It is inspirational as it provides a deep message, don’t judge people by their appearance! August is such a strong character, but by far my favourite character is Summer. It takes a lot of courage to stand up against a crowd and Summer proudly stood against her friends and did the right thing and joined Auggie who was sitting alone for lunch. It saddened me and bought tears to my eyes when Daisy died. I have a old dog myself and I understand the bond you develop with them over the years. I would definitely recommend this book to others because I believe August’s story should be shared and make us all aware of the fact that there are so many children who have a facial deformity similar to Auggies! I rate this book a 10 out of 10!.

  68. Wonder by R.j. Palacio is a heartwarming story of a young boy; August Pullman who has to go through many events of discrimination and prejudice. He is not only the new kid in a new school but, August isn’t a normal boy, although he may play video games and act like a normal kid, he was born with a facial deformity which makes having a normal life and going to school hard. I really loved this book and think it has a beautiful story. It entails courageous and determined characters and a strong and thoughtful message; don’t judge a book by its cover. My favourite part of the book is how it’s written in each character’s point of view because you can understand why someone may have chosen to do things and also how certain situations may be inferred differently by people. My favourite character is Olivia; August’s sister because she doesn’t stand anyone making rude comments or being rude to August, that is what I imagine a big sister to act like around her younger siblings.. I would definitely recommend this book to people looking for a great heart-warming story full of adventure and courage, ages 10+

At times this book made me really sad that there were kids that judged him for his physical appearance, without even knowing him. I loved seeing Augie live his life as a normal kid, and making friends. It made me really happy to see that people started to be Augie’s friend, and not judge him. It was really hard to see Augie get bullied, by people at school, but he was able to overcome it. This book shows the struggles of a young boy who is trying to fit in at school, and his journey of getting to where he is now. He has a really supportive family that helped get through I tough time. I would recommend this book to anyone, and would rate in an 11 out of 10 as it makes me so happy when I read it.

Wonder is a very well thought out book and an amazing story that is also based on reality. Wonder is about a boy named Augie who has severe facial deformities, he was homeschooled until he reached fifth grade and his parents then decided to put him in a normal school so that he can face the real world and learn what it will be like and to learn to accept that. August is bullied by a kid named Jullian who can’t see past Augie’s facial deformities, Jullian is your typical mean kid but his parents are the exact same and they even cut Augie out of the school photo, truly harsh people not teaching their son the right ways.

My favourite part of the book is when they all go to summer camp and Jullian’s mean friends stand up for Augie finally overcoming his looks and focussing on the inside. Augie is in forrest and some big grade 6’s come up and tease him but they are outnumbered when Jullians ex friends come to the rescue. Augies friend Jack is my favourite character because he is always there for Augie and even got into a fight to defend Augie from Jullian, he is so sweet but is still Jullians friend and can sometimes get caught up in peer pressure to hate Augie but he soon realises and turns his head in a different direction.

August was my favourite character as he was going through a tough time. My least favourite part of the book was when the daisy died. If I could change something in the book it would be the part were it could go for longer. I would recommend this book to people that are going through this and showing them that it is ok to be the way you are. I would give It a rating out of 10-10 because it is an amazing book to read.

Wonder is a really interesting book. It’s about a 10 year old boy named August, who has a severe facial deformity. He goes to school for the first time, after being home-schooled all his life. Along the way he meets a lovely girl called Summer, she doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. I really like the way that the story is told from different points of view, it puts a interesting spin of the story. This a really inspiring book, that everyone should read! I recommend it to ages 10 + and rate it 9/10.

I think Wonder is a book everyone must read. It will make you laugh, cry and even get angry. Auggie has never born. He was born with a deformed face and has had lots and lots of surgeries. One time when he was coming back from his only friends (Christian) his parents were discussing a decision the would change his life. As he makes his way into a new world he will find friends, enemies and everything between. Wonder is a MUST READ!!

  101. Wonder is a book about a boy who has facial differences who entered 5th grade after being homeschooled for his whole life. Twenty plus surgeries in his short 10 year life which has left him able to hear, see and speak like the other kids but definitely doesn’t look like them. School is far from easy, with kids calling him names and bulling him.
My favourite part is the part when Auggie wins the student of the year award also when they are at the summer camp and the older kids stick up for Auggie and jack-will.
My favourite character was Auggie because even though he had tough times, he was able to survive all the bullies and other problems though out 5th grade.
I highly recommend this book to people who have a good heart and show empathy to others.

  102. Wonder is a classic read that explores the issues faced by many young adults. The main character, Auggie, has to deal with these issues but having a physically deformed face compounds these issues for him making his life miserable. I admire Auggie’s determination and strength of character throughout the book. Auggie tries to fit in but one of the key quotes from this book is ‘you can’t blend in when you where born to stand out’. This book made me realise how hard it must be for people that don’t ‘fit in’ with stereotypes. This book makes you take a step back and look at your behaviour towards others because everyone must be treated with respect and consideration. I highly recommend this book to people of all ages as it is an inspirational story that everyone can relate to. I would certainly give this book a 10/10!!

Wonder was a remarkable book about a talented 10 year old boy, August who faced many challenges when moving to Beecher Prep School. August had been homeschooled for a number of years as his parents felt that this would be better for him due to him being born with a facial deformity. Jack, who became August’s close friend, defended August against 5 bullies because they were making fun of his face. The way in which Jack stood up for August became one of my most favourite parts of the book. Jack believed in true friendship and looked beyond August’s appearance and wanted to make sure that his friend could enjoy camp just like everyone else. I didn’t have a favourite character because I liked all of them. This story was one that would give much hope to those who feel like they could never make friends. It is nice to think that there are people who can see beyond the exterior. This story can also be one that educates people of all ages to stop and think about doing the right thing and treating others the way they should be treated. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about challenging life stories that have a happy ending

August Pullman has a deformed face and has undergone 27 surgeries.
It is hilarious at some times yet so sad at others.
It has a lot of positive messages in the book that everyone needs to use.
August dreams of being ordinary, and he is so much more than ordinary at heart.
Jack looks out for him and inspires others to as well.
I like the part in when they go on camp and Jack and Will get bullied by older kids and then
his friends stick up for him/them, it shows such kindness and courage.
Wonder is an amazing book I would recommend it to anyone. 10/10!

This novel is a great example of not judging a book by its cover and I believe it’s a lesson everyone needs to learn. Reading this book really did put things into perspective for me. Just because people look a certain way doesn’t mean anyone has the right to judge them without knowing who they really are. Wonder is an amazingly written book for all ages and will have an impact whether your 10 or 60 years old. I’ve seen the movie as well and I was not disappointed. I believe that it is a 10/10 rated novel and without a doubt believe it should be recommended for each and every student at SHC to read as it is an outstanding book and has such a beautiful meaning behind it.

  106. I absolutely love the book Wonder. I thought it had a really interesting storyline and was a really interesting read. The book was incredibly sad but inspiring to read. Auggie Pullman is a young boy who has a facial deformation. He isn’t ‘normal’ looking and is bullied by the kids at his school and judged by people outside of school. Once people get to know him they realise that there is more to him than his appearance. He is an incredibly smart boy who has an interest in science and space. I love how all of the characters are portrayed and the book tells us how Auggie has influenced other peoples lives. When Auggie was going to school on his first day, his sister Via says to him, “You can’t fit in when you were born to stand out.” I love this quote because it shows how some simple words can make someone more confident and it shows how being different is not something to be ashamed of. I would recommend this movie to almost everyone, young or old. It is an amazing book and very emotional, so make sure some tissues are near by.

My mum and dad had to pry me away from this book to eat dinner! This is a story about a ten year old boy who has gone though 27 surgery’s on his face, so after this you’d expect to have a pretty mangled face, well August overcomes hims fear of judging and bullying him when he goes to school, which very sadly…..he is. August makes me feel happy for who i am. my favourite part of the book is when he has his astronaut helmet. my least favourite part of the book is when his dog Ruby, gets very sick and sadly dies. i cried at this part. August is a heart touching kid and will definitely go and recommend this book to all my friends!!!

  108. Is a book/movie about a boy who looks different to everyone else and faces bullying through he first year of school, before that he was home schooled until the 5th grade when his parents decided he was old enough to go to school.
My favourite part of the book was when he went to summer camp and the bigger boys stood up to kids from other schools. A boy named Julian who went to the same school as Auggie (which is the main character) got suspended for bullying Auggie, and after Julian came back he was wondering why everyone was so nice to Auggie and ended up moving schools.
My favourite character would’ve had to been Summer because she wasn’t asked to be friends with him, and she just went over and sat next to him while everyone was staring at him but she didn’t care what everyone thought.
I would definitely recommend this book to everyone or you could go watch the movie, it is suitable for all ages and it is a great movie that wants you to be apart of it. It is one of my favourites books I’ve ever read.

It is a story about over coming your struggles, no matter how big they are.
I loved how Jack could take the time to see passed Auggies face and into Auggies real personality. Auggie was such an inspirational person and if R.J. Palacio wrote another book, I think Auggie would grow up to be the kind of person the world needs more of.

This book brings a lot of different emotions. But thats the good thing about. First hearing about this book all I thought it was going to be was just someone feeling sorry for some poor disabled kid. But it was more than that. For August it was a challenge for him to make friends and survive school. There were good time and bad times that he faced and the bad time always ended up good. My favourite character would have to be Jack. He has so much bravery for always no matter what, standing up for Auggie. Every time August got put down, Jack would always be or have the solution! They where truly great friends for each other. I also thought Jack was brave for sticking with Auggie. He had a place with the ‘popular’ group but decided to do the right thing and even get bullied for it. But he still did it! This is an amazing book full of great chapters. I highly recommend this book and rate it 3 stars1

  136. Wonder is a spectacular book that is captivating from the first chapter the writer Raquel J. Palacio is very talented and has also found ways to divide sections of the book that tell the story of auggie from all points of view, this tactic makes is much easier to connect with characters and helps to develop a stronger understanding of the story line.

The main character is just your average 10 year old boy, he loves to play sports and the xbox just like all kids his age. Although this brave boy has been through more than you would think. This text is based on an inspiring young kid named auggie who was born with rare genetic mutation that has affected many aspects of his life especially his appearance. It has taken almost 27 surgeys to teach auggie how to breathe, speak, hear, taste, run and play but none of which have made him look normal. auggie‘s family love him dearly and try there best to shelter him from the harsh world but they know at some point he is going to need experience things for himself. Auggie has a lovely caring mum, dad and sister via.

Auggie has seen the many kids and parents look at him with disturbed faces and knows that he is different. because auggie is home schooled he has always fantasized about attending a real school. It was a debatable proposal when he told his parents that he wanted to go to a real school but is there hearts they knew he was right.

Throughout augie’s adventures into the open world he has ups and downs as he learns the harsh judgment that he gets from other students and parents but through it all auggies two new friends stick by his side and he always has big sis via watching over him.

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. This book teaches you the cruel hardship and reality of many peoples lives as well as the importance of friendship and unbreakable bonds. I recommend this book to girls aged 11-17 who enjoy emotional and humorous books.

  141. Wonder. A children’s story about a young boy named August Pullman, who suffers from an extremely rare medical facial difference. I’d give this book a 5 star rating because it has a beautiful message behind it and anyone who is interested would really enjoy it.

It was really hard for me to put this book down I would defiantly recommend this book to someone who likes to sit down for a long period of time and just read.

Auggie himself is a very convincing and poignant character. The things he goes through show that there is more to a person than just there face and I think it is a great example for “bullies” because Auggie got bullied and there was more to him than the people thought.

  146. The unforgettable story about August Pullman. This book and movie is WONDER. it is a must-read book. it tells us about a young boy that has been through so much but can still be so happy with his life. August is a boy who just wants to look like everyone else but is destined to stand out. Age is just a 10 year old and does what 10-year-old boys do like ride bikes and play with friends. For his lifetime he has been homeschool by his mum and dad but now it time for him to go to school. It shows that people can put you down but all you have to do is pick your self up and forget about those people. I would rate this book an 11/10. This book is a must read and when the movie comes out that is going to be a must watch.

  147. This book is about a 10 yer old boy named August or Auggie, (his nickname) August has a facial deformity or a deformed face. He does not look normal like the other kids but he doesn’t mind. August knows that people stare at him constantly or talk about him behind his back even though he can hear them. August just wants to be like aa normal kid and doesn’t want to be treated differently. August has been homeschooled for his whole life and now he wants to try being at a normal school. Auggie has a 13 year old sister named Olivia or Via. Olivia feels like she is always less important because everybody puts Auggie’s needs first and doesn’t pay that much attention to Olivia. Olivia struggles to fit in because she has a brother that is deformed. August meets some friends that think he is normal and stick up for him when people stare at him or treat him differently. The first person we meet in this book is a sweet girl named Summer. Summer is one of those popular girls at school, when she sees August she sits down next to him. She only really sat next to him because she felt sorry for him but when she got to know August more and more she became closer to him. Summer had no real close friends before and August was one of the first. The next person that became friends with August was a boy named Jack who August meets when some kids are showing August around the school. Jack liked August for who he was and he really like him a lot. They both became very close friends after that and August became to trust Jack and think he can be a loyal friend Jack ruins their friendship by going against August and saying very rude things about him behind his back. What Jack didn’t know was that Auggie was listening and heard Jack say those mean things about him to the other boys in school. The two boys eventually patched things up and they became the friends they used to be. There is a bully in school named Julian and he doesn’t care about anybody than himself. His mother, Melissa thinks that this school shouldn’t let kids that have special needs, like August come into the school. Well Julian has taken after his mother’s footsteps because he is always very rude to August and always talk behind his back saying things that are not true and saying things that are not very nice. Julian tries to turn the whole school against Jack just because Jack decides to keep on being friends with August.

I rate this book a 9/10 because it was a great book, I could not stop reading this book it was very eye catching and I couldn’t put the book down. I think this book had a very motivating moral which would be not to judge a book by it’s cover.

I commented on this book last year but know that the movie is coming out in October!!! I just had to write something else. I know people say the like to watch the movies and not worrying about the book but the author has done an amazing job of really expressing all of the different emotions Auggie is having. If anyone reads the book and doesn’t cry, they have no heart. The book has so much more things which the movie would never be able to reach. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK, for your own sake.

I would definitely recommend this to children that are having a hard time because they can have someone to relate to, Auggie. This book really grabbed me because it is told from all different characters points of view. This helped me to understand what all characters were feeling, not just one like normal books. Wonder is a relevant and heartfelt book. Authored by R.J. Palacio, Wonder’s message and moral is clear. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. The book is about 10 year old Auggie, who was born with a deformed face, he has been home schooled his entire life, but out of no where, suddenly he is sent to start school for the first time. The story continues with him learning to properly accept himself, and with the people around him accepting him too.

  159. wonder, [the book] I have never read a book that has moved me so much, i believe Wonder is a book that lots of people should read. Wonder is a story about how a boy called August. August’s face is deformed. he goes through life with people staring at him and judging him with out even knowing who he is. August Pullman has been homeschooled because of the amount of surgeries he has had done on his face. One night things start to shift around through a conversation that happens between his mum and dad. The conversation is about how August should start school. At first August is not so convinced and doesn’t want to go, but as days go on he wonders and thinks about it and how it wouldn’t hurt trying something knew, so he decides to give it a try. August knew for sure that when he starts school he will have the same looks and stares from students as he gets from everyone every day. As he goes threw his first year at school there were some ups and downs, but things start to get better. As the story goes on it stops the first part of the book which is from august’s viewpoint and moves onto a different character in the book, which could be anyone. For example a member of august’s family, or a friend that he has met at school and they say there viewpoint and story about themselves and what they think of August.

And so there is so much going on in the book and it is a great book to read and understand what he went threw. i recommend this book to students from year 4 and above, even adults should read this.

  161. I recommend this book for ages 10-12 but any age can read this book even adults. The main character of the book is named August Pullman and he has a facial deformity which he hates because when he walks anywhere in public he gets stared at. I really like this book because you can feel the emotions that the author is trying to express and how hard it would be to be like that. My favorite part of the book is at the start when he describes himself. It is like you are there and you are Auggie and you feel everything. My least favorite part of the book is when the parents of Auggies class mate photo-shop Auggie out of the class photo. If I could change a part of this book i would probably change the part again where the parents photo-shop Auggie. I would instead write about his parents being nice to Auggie and being a good role model for their child. If you like fiction and books that are a little bit sad, then I would definitely recommend this book to you. It is a story that will touch your heart.

  164. I really like this book because it shows that don’t judge people by how they look or what they like. I think everyone should read this book even adults because it teaches a good lesson. You may feel that this book teaches children not to judge books by covers, but, I felt that it teaches children bad lessons. Auggie got special treatment, and was given a medal just for, basically, being disabled. That tells people that disabled/handicapped people are special and different, and should be treated this way. When, in reality, disabled/handicapped people are normal, and shouldn’t be given awards for no reason. “Wonder” also teaches children that, if somebody is a bully, they deserve every shred of hate that is possible for them to receive. Julian was berated mercilessly throughout this book, and Jack said that he would want to KILL HIMSELF if he were Julian!! By the way, my favorite character was Julian. He was the one I could sympathize with the most. If somebody said that they would kill themselves if they were me, and then LAUGHED about it, I would be devastated. Wonder is one of those rare books that makes you want to hug everyone in it so tightly that they’ll have no doubt about how much you love them…and beyond that, it also makes you want to reach out and hug the whole world. It’s an upbeat, humorous, life-affirming story that deserves to be read—and it’s one that may just change its readers, too.

The novel ‘Wonder’, is a heartfelt story which would inspire anyone, of any age. It’s a very easy read, I read it in a couple of hours, but boy does it pack a punch! It tells the story of Auggie, a young boy with a facial deformity, as he transitions into mainstream middle school. I really enjoyed this novel. It has the perfect balance of humour and sadness, all written in a sincere warmness, that makes the overall message so moving. I definitely cried in a few places in the book! The language is simple, but powerful, and anyone can read it regardless of age. I really liked reading from all the characters’ perspectives (except justin’s, which I thought was unnecessary), and I thought the story itself was really engaging. The only criticism I had was that although it finished very nicely and I was left very inspired, it just didn’t seem like a completely realistic ending. It was a bit to ‘happily ever after-esque’, which I enjoyed, but left me wondering if something like that could, as much as I would like it to, really happen in real life. In saying that, for younger, impressionable readers (and for older ones too!) it really does teach a very good and important message, so I would definitely recommend to anyone!

Wonder was an amazing book about a little boy born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a proper school. Until his mother deemed him old enough to go to a proper school rather than being homeschooled by her. Auggie started school in 5th grade at Beecher Prep. During his time at Beecher Prep, he went through constant bullying of his face. He kept his head up and got on with his life. His story was inspirational to me and lots of other people who have read his story. This book inspired us to be different and achieve our goals.

    R. J. Palacio wrote a heart warming and heart breaking novel at the same time for us to read. She has the readers laughing one minute and then wiping away our tears. It all about a boy who has had 27 surgeries on his face and goes to school to become a normal boy. Its so sad and everyone judges him by his looks but deep down inside he is the most insecure little guy and a huge softy! My Favourite Character in the book is Summer she is just a happy beautiful and caring person and she make you think that not everybody will judge you for what you look like she is one of those loyal friends you will never forget. My favourite part of the book was probably when they went to camp and they went to watch the movie and the people at the other school were mean. Wonder is such an amazing book! August has not had the best past as he has had around 27 surgeries, this causes him to not be the most ordinary child on the outside. August originally is home schooled by his parents. His parents change of mind leads to obstacles after obstacles for August, as if fitting in wasn’t already a challenge! His obstacles make him stronger as a person throughout the book. There is many life lessons in this book that everyone should respect such as: Not judging people by their looks. When the other school kids stare and whisper behind his back he doubts himself. His experiences did not prepare him for normal school…bullying and back-stabbing.

wonder is a great book, i read it last year and it really opened my eyes to what was happening to disabled children in school . It made me really sad to hear the names people were calling Auggie and how people were embarrassed to be his friend. this book really showed some of school societies real problems like bullying, popularity, friendship problems and this list could go on forever.
for me this book was quite confronting to read and it is a very good and captivating story that helps everyone realise how lucky we really are.
this book is great for 10-16 year olds but there is no restrictions!!! i 100% recommend this book for everyone!!!

This book has been the best books I’ve ever read. It makes you feel for Auggie,a boy who has had 27 surgeries on his face and is deformed from birth. He often says: “whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse.” He is the sweetest person in the universe, although many people don’t treat him that way. It’s so sad that everyone judges him by his looks but deep down inside he is the most caring and sensitive yet strong person. My favourite character would have to be Auggie, as he’s the main character. This book has friendship breaking and making, humour and love throughout the book. I rate this book 100%.

Wonder is a magnificent & emotional book. August (Auggie) is a young boy who has normal hobbies, talents and interests, but Auggie is not ordinary. He was born with a disfigured face. Auggie gets and lot of stares when he is walking down the street. But Auggie is very scared, because it is time for him to start middle school, and he has never been to school! He thinks that he will get teased and laughed at, and that would be his nightmare. What follows is an amazing story about fitting in and growing up, and how one boy can change the lives of those around him. I give this book a 10/10!!!

    I LOVE THIS NOVEL!!!
This is a beautiful heart-warming book, with inspirational morals and sweet messages that mean something in real life. The message it gives me is don’t judge a book by it’s cover, and always be brave and show kindness. It was all about August with his deformed face and about all the friendships he makes at Beacher Prep. It wasn’t easy though, August gets bullied and made fun of. But August stays determined and strong with his courageous friends, protective family and daisy the adorable and loveable dog by his side. This book is amazing because it really is just like what happens in reality, and all the morals mean something in real life too. Another reason this book is excellent is because it makes you use your imagination, The book had me dying to look at his face and know what the other characters see. But all the book said was “Whatever you’re thinking, It’s probably worse”. The story is a tearjerker, I was on the verge of crying at one point. I love this book because it has different chapters that show everyones point of view and perception, there is Via; protective and loyal, Summer; my role model, kind and compassionate, Jack; one of the people who judge’s books by their front cover but then saw August for what he was, And there is a bonus chapter where Julian truly shows his deep feelings and truths. Young or Old, This is your ideal book if you love emotional tales that truly touch your heart. 9/10.
    A wonderful read!

  198. Wonder by R.j. Palacio is a heartwarming story of a young boy; August Pullman who has been homeschooled all his life, until one day his parents decide to enroll him at Beacher prep. Although it isn’t all as easy as it sounds, he’s not only the new kid but August isn’t a normal boy, although he may play video games and act like a normal kid, he was born with a facial deformity which makes having a normal life and going to school hard. I really loved this book and think it has a beautiful story, courageous and determined characters and a strong and thoughtful message; don’t judge a book by its cover. My favourite part of the book is how it’s written in each characters point of view because you can understand why some people did what they did even though it may of hurt someone they did it for another reason which I find really interesting. My favourite character is Olivia; August’s sister because she doesn’t stand anyone making rude comments or being mean to August, that is what a big sister should always be like. I would definitely recommend this book to people looking for a great heartwarming story full of adventure and courage, ages 10+

It is about August Pullman a ordinary 10 year old boy who does ordinary things but he was born with terrible facial abnormality. This book is written in the perspective of August himself and also in the perspective of some of his friends and family. The book is about August finally going to school and his experience. It is a sad but funny and amazing book. I definitely recommend it!!!!! 10 out of 10!

The best thing I like about this book is that you feel like you are the character, and that proves that the author really knows how to do that amazing and incredible stuff.
A part that is really sad is when people tease him about how he looks, that is so mean and sad and I can’t believe that people would do that.

August was born with a serious facial diesese that prevented him from going to main school. He then started at mainstream school in 5th grade and really struggled in the first few weeks of school.

Ive never read a book all at once like that before! I absolutely recommend this book, 10 out of 10! This book is for those who like an emotional yet inspiring read. I must admit… I did shed a few tears. Ok. Maybe a lot… my point is, make sure to have a box of tissues nearby!

One of my favourite characters was Jack. Although at the beginning he was not very accepting and open minded and he was a bit judgemental, by the end he stuck up for whats right and helped Auggie out tremendously! My other Favourite is.. of course, Auggie. He is very inspiring the way he was tough, courageous and thick skinned.

  211. I think Wonder is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. It’s inspiring on some many levels and it really resonated with me. It’s about this 10 year old boy August Pullman or Auggie as he prefers to be known as who lives with a rare medical condition resulting in many facial deformities. What’s interesting about this book is that throughout the whole story the author never describes Auggie’s face, nor are there any pictures, it’s just left up to our imagination. Anyway, Auggie has been homeschooled his entire life because of his disability until his parents decide to enrol him and Beecher Prep, a private school in Manhattan. Going to school for the first time proves to be a challenge for Auggie particularly with his disability and he is met with judgement and forms of bullying. The book follows Auggie’s journey through his first year at school and with each section of the book is a different voice, exploring the many ways in which friends and family live with Auggie’s difference and how it impacts their lives. This book is truly extraordinary. It is a really easy read but it is so beautifully written. A truly inspirational book, you will have tears in your eyes. I rate this book a 10/10!

  215. My thoughts on Wonder after reading the whole book are that this book has pulled me in and won’t let go. The book is full of emotion that makes you want to keep reading until you’ve finished, at one point in this book I was on the verge of crying. I am really enjoying the storyline of this book, and the way that it changes from Auggie’s, to Via’s to Summer and then to Jack’s point of view. I have started to get my head around how hard school is for Auggie, and that my first day at SHC would have been nothing compared to Auggie’s. I feel really apologetic when Auggie explains the hardships that he has to go through at school including the ‘plague’ when no one is allowed to touch him, so they go out of their way to make sure that they go no where near Auggie, stuff like this must be obvious to Auggie and very hard for him. Personally I have never experienced bullying or that difficult of hardships, but from reading this book I have started to realise why bullying, cyber bullying and physical buying have become such a common dilemma around the world, and also how much that it needs to be stopped. My favourite character is now Via, she demonstrates a lot of big sister qualities that a lot of kids with a brother like Auggie wouldn’t have, as a big sibling myself I think that it would be quite difficult to do so. My aunty has down syndrome and she finds it very difficult to read write and talk, she has never been to school or had an education but my family have always been a massive support to my grandma in taking care of her. I can extremely imagine that school for her would be immensely tough, though Auggie has a similar problem, and he battles through school, which i believe is an amazing achievement. When my grandpa passed away 2 years ago, i found it very hard to deal with, like Auggie and Via loosing their gran, I cried and cried, because a massive part of my family had been taken away from us, I found it really hard to get my head around the fact that i wouldn’t see him again, but I realised that he was in a better place. Auggie, with a disability probably would not have understood this concept at the time, but Via did, and it seemed as if the rock in her world had left her.

This book has showed me different aspects in life that i had never thought were here, it is like an informative book, but not like a boring textbook, its a book that everyone should read.

My favourite character is Summer because on the first day of school when she sees August sitting by himself, she feels sorry for him and sits with him. Summer didn’t really realise that she would be good friends with August. I really don’t like Julian though because be’s a spoilt brat and doesn’t think about anyone else but himself and makes August’s life miserable. But this book can be really funny as well and has a great moral to it.

  220. ‘Wonder’ is one of my favourite books ever. I borrowed it from the library once and it made me tear up, I couldn’t take my eyes off it! ‘Wonder’ is about a little boy named August (people call him Auggie) who was born deformed and by going to school, learns the importance of friendship. Some people at his school bully him but he tries to not let it get to him. At the end of the year he graduates from primary school. From being a quiet boy that makes every one scream the moment they see him to being one of the most popular kids in the school. The Author of this book is trying to tell people that you shouldn’t judge someone by how the look. One of the quotes that really stood out to me in the book was ‘Don’t try to fit in, when you’re born to stand out…’ Orgi shows empathy and commitment because he knows how others feel when they are being bullied because he has been bullied before, and he is committed to finish his last year of primary school. I give this book a 10 out of 10 because it teaches you a lot and what you should do if you are in the same situation. I recommend this book to people who love tear-jerker books.

So when his mum and dad suggested the idea of going to school to him it was a definite no, but as he thought real hard about it he decided to go. At school he learns lots of things testing friendship, loyalty, honesty and he had to learnt how to stand up to bullies and always… well most of the time to stay positive no matter what.

I like this book because it is a good story and it tells us how it is to live in a life of a disadvantaged person. My favourite part of the book was probably when they went to camp and they went to watch the movie and the people at the other school were mean. Auggie lost his hearing aid but his friends helped him through. Olivia or via because even though her younger brother looks different she stills loves him. The book is about a young boy who’s nickname is Auggie, he has a body defect which is called “Mandibulofacial Dysostosis” it is quite scary to look at but is very uncomfortable for them to live with! The book has a very inspirational message, I think the message is “No matter what you look like you are special in your own unique way” and Auggie accepts that. It takes you on a amazing journey and there is a lot of events which are so intriguing. I recommend this book for all ages. And I rate it a 8/10 🙂

If suddenly I was whispered about a pointed at. This little boy, named Auggie (August), is so inspirational. He holds his head high, and doesn’t let bullying get the better of him. We could all take a leaf out of his book. My favourite character in the book is his sister Olivia (Via), because she is strong and she never lost hope in Auggie and stuck by his side. august is boy with facial deformity. for the first time at 10 years old he is starting a real school which he is terrified of and just wants to fit in. this book really makes you think about things, like not to judge people on the way they look. this book really shows you that underneath it all he is just like them a young ten year old that enjoys everything they enjoy, watches the shows they all watch and has the same hobbies. i would recommend this book to pop;e who like eye opening stories and things that happen in reality. its a great book and defiantly deserves a 10/10!!!

  242. I really like the book Wonder. We had to read it for school last year and I really liked it. Its about a boy August and he has a deformed face. You get to discover his life in different perspectives. I really liked this book because it was different to other books. It was written from his perspective and his family and friends perspectives of the story. I recommend this book to people who like books with sadness and happiness. I rate this a 7.5 / 10

    I really like this book.

My favourite character is August because he is so strong and he just keeps going no matter what happens. He is strong and determined.

I would recommend this book to people who like a book that follows a story.

I like this book because it has a realistic book not an adventure story with witches or warlocks. It is down to earth.

If you like heart-touching books you will love this book. I was so upset on how the other characters treated him.

I wish I could change how the other characters treated August.

At first when I was told that I was reading this book for English Lit Circles I was like “Ohh Great” but then as I started to read this book I couldn’t stop even though we had to in our sections. It is one of the best books I have ever read and that is mainly to do with the Adventure Auggie goes on! I cant believe he can live with people looking at him all the time and wondering why he looks like that. This book takes you on a fun and sometimes sad journey! My favourite character is Auggie because he shows so much courage to go to school and put up with the teasing and judgement he gets, But deep down in side of Auggie is a nice and caring boy. There are some parts in the novel where I was nearly crying but then some are so funny you sometimes laugh out loud! Overall I love this book and would love to read it again. I would rate this book a 8.5/10 and that is because I loved how the author brought a real life situation and made it funny and sad and a intreating journey! I would recommend this to everyone who loves a Journey and real life situation with a twist!

i just read this book for lit circles and i loved it! I think this book is such a good book it shows you don’t have to be perfect to be ordinary. I think its such a good book to start off with when you’re starting a new bigger school like sacred heart. My Favourite Character in the book is Summer she is just a happy beautiful and caring person and she make you think that not everybody will judge you for what you look like she is one of those loyal friends you will never forget. As soon as i got to the last page i was getting into the book and i just couldn’t resist myself from reading the next few pages but i managed to put my ipad down. The author really does know how to hook you into the book.

I would recommend this novel to anyone with the ability to read ! August is a strong and determined child who chooses to overcome the ups and downs he encounters throughout his life. This book is so inspiring in so many ways and demonstrates a really sensitive and heart felt example of bullying. This story is written so well, I could feel the emotions that August was. It is so unbelievable what he has to go through EVERY SINGLE DAY ! There are some parts in the novel that can get you to near tears and other parts where you can be just astounded at the extent some people will go to to make someone feel bad about themselves. But all in all I absolutely adored this book and would give it a definite 10/10 !

I believe that this book Wonder is a heart-touching book. We’re only meant to read parts of the book but I keep reading more chapters. August is a lovely kid, even though on his face he has had many surgeries but hasn’t change, he is no different to any other child. I would really like to buy a book, it’s so interesting. He made a friend named Summer and she was so nice because she sat next to Auggie on the first day because she felt sorry for him. I rate this book 10/10. If you have the chance to read it, I strongly believe you should!!

  249. This book by far has been the best book I have ever read. It makes you have mixed emotion and is frankly a awesome book. It all about a boy who has had 27 surgeries on his face. He says “whatever your thinking, its probably worse.” He is the sweetest little kid in the universe. Its so sad and everyone judges him by his looks but deep down inside he is the most insecure little guy and a huge softy! My favourite character would have to be Auggie aka August, he’s the main character. This book has friendship breaking and making, humour and love throughout the book from his family. I rate this book 10/10

I was chosen to do this book in Lit-circles this term for an assessment task. Since we are not allowed to read the whole book (only parts) I will base this book review on the chapters I’ve read… Auggie in his heart badly wants to be ordinary but outside is the problem. Auggie has a problem with this face which happened as he was developing in this mums tummy. Auggies himself narrates the book saying a heart-breaking sentence on the first page…”What-ever you think my face looks like, it’s probably worse”. Its a book that you can not put down but I seem to have to because I’m not allowed to read ahead… IT’S TORTURE!!!!! Great book 9-10

This book is a very detailed and heart warming book. August is an ordinary boy to himself, but to everyone else , its a different story. The one day August goes to school for the first time, and its not primary school but it’s middle school. August is a brave boy and tries to make friends. But some boys start making fun of him but he pushes through the pain of people laughing and staring at him. I would never be able to be as brave as him! The book is very good and I rate it a 10 out of 10!

  252. This book is really well writen. I enjoyed every minute of it. During the book I realised how lucky I really am. He went through so much and I can’t possible imagine how I could do it. I love how everyone gets to have their own perspective on whats happen, not just coming from 1 person. I loved the character Summer because she doesn’t care about what he looks like and she is always hoping to see if he is ok. Recommend this to anyone because it is so entertaining and you can never put this book down. 🙂

His Mum and Dad try anything to help him. As his face has had so many surgery reconstructions he has been home schooled. August finds a girl named Summer who likes August for who he is. Where as a boy named Julian starts leading the bullying attacks! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a bit of a sad story. I rate this book a 9/10.

Wonder. The title says it all. August is an ordinary kid o the inside but on the outside he knows he isn’t. He is a self-conscious kid who can tell exactly when people do the ‘look-away’ thing or stare. It isn’t easy being August. He has to have surgeries and has the hard challenge of starting school at the age of 10. Wonder had it’s ugly bits like in the woods where there were bullies and when Jack said those mean things about August that he didn’t really mean. Reading Wonder however was a bit of a challenge. it is a book that really needs to be read consecutively other-wise you miss the plot. Even though there isn’t really one. I loved the book but the read it was tricky. It puts acres many good messages about friend-ship and being a good person, which is what I like to see on a book.

I would recommend Wonder for anyone who wants a heart warming read and for ages 11+.

I rate wonder 8/10 for morals, truthfulness and humour.

  257. Wonder was such an inspiring novel in so many ways, from being different , to achieving a dream, to meeting new people, to getting picked on by people this book i could NOT put down.
August was such a good character and also someone you would feel sorry for but he put his head up high and went on wit life.
Jack was a very sweet boy to August. At the start he did not want to have to be friends with August but then he soon realised that behind the face was another boy just like him.

My favourite part in this book (even though there was heaps of great parts) would have to be when beecher prep is on camp and August and Jack go into the woods with others and August gets bullied and loses his hearing aid. But his friends stood up for him and that would be a hard thing to do. They made sure August was ok and took him back. It sends a very good message out for readers.

I would recomend this book to girls who like a inspiring, happy but sad novel. i rate it 10/10 by far!

  258. I’d like to recommend the book ‘Wonder.’ This book brought me to tears for all the wrong reasons. Wonder is about a boy with a deformed face, though it never stopped him from living a normal life which is what I love about the book. I read this book last year and even now, can still remember what happens. I’d hope in the future this book becomes a movie because it would show that we can’t judge others from what they look like. I would rate this book a 10/10 !
