The blog for books and movies

Alex fights a daily battle to figure out the difference between reality and delusion. Armed with a take-no-prisoners attitude, her camera, a Magic 8-Ball, and her only ally (her little sister), Alex wages a war against her schizophrenia, determined to stay sane long enough to get into college. She’s pretty optimistic about her chances until classes begin, and she runs into Miles. Didn’t she imagine him? Before she knows it, Alex is making friends, going to parties, falling in love, and experiencing all the usual rites of passage for teenagers. But Alex is used to being crazy. She’s not prepared for normal.

‘Made You Up’ by Francesca Zappia is a story about Alex. A teenage girl living with the ongoing struggle with schizophrenia. Unable to distinguish whats real and whats not in her life, leaves you stunned. Every page turned opens up another plot twist. One of the things I enjoyed the most about this book is how contrasting it is to other books, as this one has a range of genres which I enjoy as I never really know if I like a certain genre or not. This book was a roller coaster of emotions for the characters and for me. Its just one of those books that you say, OK I’ll just finish this chapter then I’ll put it down, 10 chapters later your the rest of the world is oblivious to you because you need to find out what Alex is going to say back.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an entrancing book to read. But, be warned you’ll be hooked!

  2. I would recommend the story “Made You Up” written by Francesca Zappia. This book delved really deep into the mental issues of Alex, a teenage girl living with schizophrenia. The book doesn’t really fit into a genre like romance or mystery but I think that’s one of the things I love most about it. It will take you on a rollercoaster of ups and down and leave you wondering what is real and what isn’t. The book can be very descriptive and I wouldn’t recommend it for people under the age of 14 because of some of it’s mature themes. The book has plot twists, confused emotions and drama that will leave you with a feeling of “What did I just read?” This book will make you want to reread it just for the sake of fully comprehending it’s craziness. I absolutely loved it and would definitely recommend it for those interested in mental health issues or interesting/quirky plotlines.
