The blog for books and movies

When Ellie and her friends go camping, they have no idea they’re leaving their old lives behind forever. Despite a less-than-tragic food shortage and a secret crush or two, everything goes as planned. But a week later, they return home to find their houses empty and their pets starving. Something has gone wrong–horribly wrong. Before long, they realize the country has been invaded, and the entire town has been captured–including their families and all their friends.
Ellie and the other survivors face an impossible decision: They can flee for the mountains or surrender. Or they can fight.

  1. this book was awesome I loved the way the characters were put in such an unrealistic scenario but found ways to get through it and throughout the book all became very close. I also like how the way this book was written it could resemble many different messages. I also like how this book was not all about the story line and how it wondered of from it but always managed to find its way back.

  3. ‘Tomorrow When The War Began’ is an exhilarating book for any thrill seeker out there who wants to be left on the edge of there seat at the end of every chapter! Despite the slow beginning when being introduced to the different main characters, this book certainly makes up for it, as you will experience every emotion whilst reading this book! You will be laughing, crying, smiling and even screaming at the characters to make the right decision, (I know I certainly did)!

There are several main characters who are all familiar of one another, but would never hang out on a daily bases due to their differences, but one day they all decided to meet up and soon after, embark on a trip out into the wilderness which faces them with many challenges.
Their towns are soon invaded and disaster strikes in their hometown and the fun weekend camping trip, then takes an ugly turn into a fight to survive.

I would recommend this book to adults and children who are no younger then 12 years of age, as it is a substantial read with complex language and could possibly be distressing as it involves some violent scenes that are described very vividly. Overall this book was captivating as each word left me wanting more and painted a clear image in my head of what was actually taking place as described in the book.

I would definitely recommend this book to people who love a bit of action and excitement. Although i would only reccomend this to more mature students as some of the scenes wouldn’t be appropriate for younger audiences I would definitely rate this book a 10/10!

  5. Tomorrow when the war began is a best selling book by Australian author John Marson. Although it was published in 1993 it is still a well known book today, and has been made into both a movie and T.V series.

One of the many reasons I enjoyed this book was that it was set in Australian territory, which I can relate too. At the start of the book teenager Ellie and several friends are going on a camping trip, meanwhile back at town people are preparing for the yearly fair, and things seem to be going well. Then, one night while on the trip Ellie wakes up and see’s black, silent planes. She shakes it off, thinking that it’s there just fair preparations.
However, when they return home from there trip they find there pets starving and theres homes abandoned. They soon find out that they have been invaded, and they are stuck in the middle of a war.

This book kept me on the edge of my feet, it was full of action and I would definitely recommend it.

But, I would recommend it to ages 12+ as there are some more mature scenes in the book, and occasionally I had to reread some sentences as there were words and phrases that I did not know.

I would rate it an 9/10.

Tomorrow When the War Began is one of my favourite all time book and movie. It all starts when Ellie decides to go camping with her friends in a place called ‘Hell’ While they are there they see fighter planes and think they are from Australia but they were wrong. A war broke out in their home town and when they return home from Hell they find that everybody is gone and they have to try get their families back. The elaborate plans they came up with were pure genius in my eyes and I loved every single page. I give the movie and book a 10/10 and would recommend to anyone that is over the age of 12.

It is a story of when a group of friends go out on an overnight trip to ‘hell’. when they are there a war starts in their home town . when they return home there families are gone. This is a great book and the author is fabulous. You might have seen the movie, but you should read the book it is much better. This book is by John Masden. I would recomend it for people who are 8 -16 years old.

  10. I really enjoyed the book tomorrow when the war began it showed how being in the wrong or right place at a time could be the difference between what is going to happen and wether life or death is closely approaching. It is great how Homer steps up when he is needed and becomes a big leader and a main character.

  12. I Feel this book started a bit slowly, were the main character, Ellie, decides to organise a camping trip. The story picks up when the characters arrived back from their trip and found out that there was something odd happening in the town. There isn’t much of an explanation as to why this has happened. They start to question, What happened? Where is everyone? Did they forget about us?
I was quite surprised they were never spotted or discovered at all during the book, and at some parts it hardly seemed like an action/war story. I wasn’t really sure where the story was going at all.

I didn’t have a favourite character. I found there were quite a few characters who were in Ellie’s group, which got a bit confusing, and we didn’t really find out a lot about them.
Even though it wasn’t action packed, I didn’t think it was too slow paced after the first camping trip part. Overall, it was ok. It was quite exciting in some aspects, and over all I give it a 7/10

  13. It started very slowly with the main character Ellie randomly organising a camping trip and seemed to invite everyone she knew. This part did not grab my attention and dragged on for too long with no meaning. Although the story did improve when they found out something was going on in their town, it all happened very suddenly for the characters and the reader. This book did not go into great detail of what what was actually going on and the action more about how the characters were feeling and how they were going to cope. in this book you needed to focus because in a few places it was easy to get confused with what was happening. Although this book did not focus on the action it was still alright after the first few bits. If you were expecting an exciting fast pace book this is not for you. I would rate it 6/10.

This is a fantastic novel that shows that the youth of the world can be brave and help their town. It really is a touching story too there is romance, action and some gruesome and descriptive sections. My favourite section is when they all decide to help save the town and they get their gear and ride the motorbikes down there ready to fight. That was my favourite section because it showed that kids can pull together and do whatever they can to save their loved ones, I know I would anyway. All up this is a fantastic book and so is the rest of them too.

  17. This book was written by john marsden. Its a story of how seven teenagers went on a camping trip that changed their lives for ever. Ellie and six of her friends waved goodbye to their small country home expecting to return to their normal lives in a few days. However while they were relaxing high in the hills, a war was beginning. To go home and find that everyone you loved were being held hostage, starved and killed. They face the challenge of weather to fight or hide. To give up everything and sacrifice life itself. It’s thrilling action packed novel with hint of romance and normal teenage idiocy.
I really liked it, i would read it again and i recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good plot but an easy read. i rate it 8/10.

This book is so good! I think that Tomorrow When The War Began is one of the best books I have ever read. I just could not put it down, no matter what! Tomorrow When The War Began, by John Marsden is a very descriptive book and is written so well. I was very impressed by the movie, so I was extremely impressed with the book. Tomorrow When The War Began is about seven teenagers who go camping on the weekend of the Wirrawee Show, and when they come back, they find no one at their homes, no one around the streets, and no one anywhere. They had no idea what was going on, until they realise that a war had began. They are now fighting for their lives, their families and for their country. My favourite characters would have to be Homer and Ellie, because they try their hardest to know what the right thing to do for their group is and their characters are the type of people who would never give up. I also really enjoyed this book because it is set in Australia. My favourite part would have to be near the end, when they blow up the bridge, as this part has so much action in it and the description can make you picture everything in your mind. It is a little scary though, that one day you would be having fun with your friends and the next day, you have no idea where everyone and everything is and you find yourselves in a terrifying and awkward situation, not knowing what to do. When I had finished the book, I was a little up set that it was finished, but I knew that I could read the next books in the Tomorrow Series, to find out what happens to Ellie, Homer, Robyn, Fi, Lee, Kevin, Corrie and Chris. This book is the most amazing book and I would definitely rate it a 10 out of 10. I recommend this book to anyone who is above the age of 12. I really enjoyed this book and I can not wait to be able to start the next book in the Tomorrow Series.

Tomorrow when the war began was something I thought I wouldn’t read but when I did, I couldn’t put it down because it was full of action, romance and it was unique. When I first heard that this book was about world war 3, I thought was going to be like the other wars but I was wrong. Though the book was pretty serious and it was still a bout war it still had some funny parts. I enjoyed the different personalties each character had, they all played an important part in the book and each of them gave their on little twist to the story. One of my favourite characters was Fi because she was someone who I imagined would be in the main part of this book, she was quite posh and girly and didn’t seem right for her. I found that the whole story had an interesting story compared to many other books. I rate this book a 9/10.

Tomorrow when the War Began is one of the best books I have ever read! I am halfway through the series now, and can’t put it down. I found it at a bookshop in Lorne a few years ago and never really read it until recently, and now I can’t believe I waited so long to discover it! It’s the most gripping book you’ll ever read, drawing you in and not letting you out until you turn the last page. The personalities and values of each individual character are so well written about, every character is completely different and has their own set of traits and morals and they all clash and have opposite sides to them but they’re still all best friends! This book teaches you heaps about conflict, relationships, friendships, moral values, ideas of right and wrong, and what to do if you’re ever stranded in the bush with a group of friends while in the middle of a war!
