The blog for books and movies

Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides—especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.

Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.

  1. I enjoyed this book and the series a lot! It is a VERY different type of book then I would normally read, but amazing non-the-less! My favourite character was Dean. He is so traumatised (and I don’t blame him), and closed up, which makes him the most interesting! My favourite part of the book is probably more the way it, and the rest of the series is set out. I like how it has some chapters in the bad guy’s perspective called You! It’s really interesting and fun trying to figure out who You is!!! I must say, after reading this, I have tried to figure people out by looking for their BPE, (Behaviour, Personality, Environment)… let’s just say it never ends well and never works. Even though it’s creepy, I also love the house that they live in, and how even the pool is a training ground! The next books in the series are also amazing, and maybe even in better in some parts. I like All In especially, since Sloane is amazing in that one!! I don’t really think I have a least favourite part in the book, as it is all pretty good! Good murder mysteries are fun, (but impossible) when it comes to guessing the killer, and this one definitely was impossible! So it was an amazing murder mystery!!I would recommend this book to anyone who likes crime solving books, and even those who don’t!!! It’s amazing!!!

  2. The Naturals is an amazing book that kept making me want to keep reading. I really enjoyed this book and would 100% recommend it for people who like mystery/murder books. When I was younger I used to read the Ruby Redfort series, and I feel like it quite similar to that but more mature. This book is mainly about Cassie experience with working on murder mystery cases then end up being to do with her mothers murder case. I wouldn’t give the ending away, but i can sure say that there were lots of unexpected twists and turns that happen during this book, and especially towards the end. This book also has a small love story on the side. There is a love triangle between Dean, Cassie and Michael, which at first, Cassie falls for Michael then Cassie falls for Dean later in the book (but I won’t give away anymore than that).

This book is mainly about a murder mystery that happens when Cassie starts working for the FBI, which she is very suspicious and interested by because the murderer had the same murdering technique as was used for Cassie mothers death. She believes that the the person who is currently murdering all these people, had something to do with her mothers murder and she wants to find out more. I really enjoyed the story line and the plot and think that it wasn’t as cliché as I thought it would be before I read it.

  3. The Naturals is one of the best books I have ever read. It is suspenseful and interesting, I loved reading this book and I was so excited to read when I got it recommended to me. The Naturals is all about 5 teenagers who come together to form an elite team who solve cold crimes for the FBI. The main character Cassie joined the team after being approached by the FBI. Her mother was murdered and the case went cold, Cassie and her team have been put on the case to find the reason her mother was murdered. I love this story and it was really suspenseful. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves crime and drama who is over 14 as there are a lot of mature themes.

  4. When I chose this book I expected to be a very cliche take on the whole ‘girl becomes a spy and saves the world’ kind of thing. However this book was anything but. I was especially fascinated by Cassie’s ability to ‘profile’ people and all the characters different skills/talents, which were all developed through their unusual upbringings. I did not expect to like the book nearly as much as I did and I also enjoyed the second book in the series. However I would not recommend this book to anyone who cannot handle anything ‘horror’ like as parts from the killers perspective were very creepy and disturbingly detailed at some points. This book had great character development and a very interesting storyline and was for me a very enjoyable read.

  5. Wow. The Naturals did not take long to read at all! The second I got the book for lit circles I was so excited. This book was so amazing and my whole mind is still spinning. I did not see this conclusion coming at all and I absolutely love how the author had me on my toes till the very last page. I feel like I really connected with this book even though it is not personally. The author has really painted a message in my head about what everything would look like and sometimes I wish that it hadn’t because it was pretty scary. This year I really enjoyed lit circles and I found that I flew through the book. Last year in lit circles I didn’t really relate to the book. The second I saw this book on the list I knew it was what I wanted to read and I was right. No book screams out to me more than crime and mystery. I am already halfway up to the third book. I recommend everyone to read this book as it is so exciting and really connects you to all scenarios.

  6. The Naturals was an amazing book and at times it had me biting my nails wondering if I want to read the next part because it might give me nightmares. The Naturals is full of action and crime and a little bit of romance as Cassie is stuck in a bit of a love triangle. Cassie is one of the five naturals and her natural talent is profiling. She can figure any information out about anyone and any one time. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to those who like books full of action, mystery and crime.

  7. Going into The Naturals, I think I was expecting just an okay book. But I’m pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this–in fact, I really, really liked it! There’s something about this book that just WORKED.

Wow. It’s really amazing to jump out of your comfort zone every once in a while, is it? I mean, I guess this book isn’t strictly outside my “comfort zone” … maybe just outside my norm. But still, it’s good to mix things up. I have to be in a very specific mood to pick up a modern thriller, and luckily, that mood finally struck, because I’ve been wanting to pick up this book for a long time it hasn’t disappointed.

Immediately when I started reading, I began to think of Criminal Minds counterparts, but this was a disservice to Barnes’ character creations. Cassie, while a little bit clinical due to her natural ability, is still a very deep character with some painful memories that serve as her motivation. I adored her character. Cassie intelligent brain was able to pinpoint the backgrounds of other people. I became to envy her special talents, her ability to predict the future is one that every die heart fan of science fiction novels wants.

After reading about the stories of Cassie, I’m instantly very intrigued to read the stories of the rest of the group members, as it helps me to find who the killer is. I hope when reading the next few chapters were able to find out.

  8. The Naturals is by far one of the best book series I have ever read. When 5 teenagers with strange abilities come together, they form an elite team who work for the FBI to solve cold cases. The main character, Cassie Hobbs is a troubled young girl who’s mother was murdered. Personally, I think that the reason Cassie joined the team was actually some sort of personal vendetta to avenge her mother’s death. I love how the author, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, does a terrific job of making sure each and every novel ended with an amazing cliff-hanger that leaves you counting down the days until the next book is released. Since the novels are written quite recently, there are a lot of aspects that a teenager in today’s age can relate to. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves a bit of crime, mystery, and action.
