The boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a very tragic story about a young boy Bruno who sadly dies during the Holocaust. The movie reflects the book very well and shows very key events and things that happens in the Holocaust. I personally didn’t like the book, mainly because of how dark and horrible the time period was. But overall great historical movie to watch.

  2. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a tragic movie. Set in the time of the jewish holocaust, a young boy, son of a soldier who lives close to the camp is unaware of what is happening just a couple of metres away from his house. His curiosity ultimately leads to his death as he gets caught up, unrecognised. This leaves his family without their son and brother. This is not only heartbreaking in this sense. But the movie provides us with insight to the lives of the jews who were forced into the concentration camps. A sad reality for many. This movie is a definitely a must watch for all, a very important part of history.

This movie ranks among the saddest I’ve ever seen, in my opinion. Eight-year-old Bruno is a curious boy who enjoys exploring new places (in Nazi Germany). The moment I finally comprehend Shmuel and Bruno’s friendship is my favourite part. In order to keep his friend from getting upset or feeling bad for the other campers who are also suffering as a result of his father, Shmuel goes to great lengths to keep his friend from finding out the terrible truth. Despite being removed from their homes, only one of the boys was still residing in a decent home; the other was staying in a camp.
It explores some dark themes so i would recommend for people over the age of 12

The boy in the striped pyjamas is a tragic story. Not one for the faint hearted. I recommend this film to anyone who is prepared to learn the devastating history of World War II. An innocent German boy Bruno was caught up in the war, with his father who was a german soldier and the people in the ’striped pyjamas’. I truly felt bad for Bruno, he was just an innocent boy, and I believe his death gave further insight to how Jews who were just as vulnerable and innocent as Bruno. A 10/10 heartfelt film. Highly recommend!!

I would recommend this movie to anyone. I thought it was a great movie and showed what it was like in that time quite well. My favourite part was when Bruno first met Shmuel because it was really cute, but I didn’t like the end because it was sad, but I won’t give anything away. I thought it was really sad what they did in these times and it was cruel and horrible and I think this movie really made people understand what it was like. I really liked this movie. i would definitely recommend it for 12 year olds and older because any younger and you wouldn’t really understand.

The boy in striped pjs is an extremely sad and will make you cry everytime. the ending of this movie is horrible and so sad. I still cry watching this. this movie has a moving meaning and background behind it and learning about it gave me a better understanding of what it all means and how everything happened at this time. I would recommend this movie for anyone older than 11 as it can be confusing for young people who may not understand what is fully happening and also people who like sad movies and are prepared to cry.

  7. this movie is one of the best and saddest movies i have watched. its also very different to the book but it’s still very, very good. if you like sad movies i highly recommend it, and not only is it sad but it’s also a very good movie that tells you about friendship. i think the saddest part of the movie for me was the fact that the jews were beaten and killed, and the part were the little jewish boy was beaten brutally by the soldier. i really don’t like the soldiers in this, or even the book, i just feel like there is not point in war. i would highly recommend this movie for people who like sad movies, (like me) and also people who are older than 10 or 11.

The movie I have to admit is a lot different to the book and does leave out a lot of detail that I would have liked to see. But I really enjoyed this movie as it should perfectly how the character were feeling and showed as much detail as they could. I would differently recommend this movie but year 8 and higher as it is a confronting topic.

The boy in the striped pyjamas is a heartfelt movie/book that gives viewers an insight into the harsh reality for Jew’s living at the time of WW2. Although it is a sad movie and I have cried every single time I have watched/read it, it is a great resource for those learning about the holocaust. My favourite character would have to be Shmuel as I found him really friendly despite all of the hardships he and his family are going through. Living on two sides, (physically and metaphorically), Bruno and Shmuel find peace and build a lovely friendship of which keeps viewers intrigued right until the very end. I would definitely recommend to anyone in high school especially those studying WW2!

This is movie is set during world war 1 and is about a little boy who becomes friend with jewish that is at a concentration camp,His father is a commandant and is against all jew. The boy doesn’t know anything about his friend that he made and doesn’t understand the danger he is putting on himself. This book makes you realise what it was like to be a Jew. It is very sad and as a warning you may cry. i rate this movie a 9/10

  11. Wow, I loved this movie and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is learning about the Jewish holocaust and WW2. I think that this movie gives you such a good insight into what those times were like during the war and the effect it had on the world. I loved the storyline of Bruno a little Jewish boy whose father was commandant in the German Army and was in charge of the Auschwitz concentration camp which the family moved to a house new by. I loved this film it was heartwrenching and very sad but it left me wanting more. Bruno could never understand why they were all in striped pajamas, he was told to never go near the camp but he did it anyway because he had made a friend. I would highly recommend this movie to people above the age of 12 because it does has some pretty grim themes that younger kids might not understand. Overall I think that this film was very good and I rate it an 8/10

  12. I loved this movie! The boy in the striped pyjamas is based on the book by John Boyne. It follows a young boy as he learns about the war and the horrific events that are taking place without him knowing. The movie is set in the eyes of 9-year-old boy Bruno, and how he sees the war through an innocent perspective. I found the movie more interesting than the book as in the book the beginning was dragged on. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes sad, historical movies and who is 10 and over.

This is a extremely sad movie although I loved it because it teaches you a lot about what WW2 was like. I think my favourite character was Bruno because he is so adventurous and empathetic towards Shmuel. My favourite part of the movie was when Bruno gave a sandwich from his home to Shmuel. I liked this bit because it showed how caring Bruno was towards Shmuel which was really enjoyable to watch. This movie has a very strong meaning and a really good storyline too. I would recommend this movie to a lot of other people because you really get to learn about WW2 and express different emotions, as there are many ups and downs throughout this movie. It is also a really meaningful movie too. If you are into war then this is definitely the movie for you! I rate this movie a 9/10.

a novel written by John Boyne “the boy in the striped pyjamas” shows that some individuals still have the courage to display empty in challenging and inhumane settings. John Boyne expresses that understanding, kindness and acceptance are vital behaviours in any culture. During this book we see one big main friends ship form, we see very cruel and challenging environments and we see some characters fight through these challenges and still show kindness. This novel is a touching read about an eight-year-old little boy, Bruno who is son of the commandant at a concentration camp during World War II. it is an eye-opening book showing us the reality of what people had to suffer during the horrible and cruel time. Brunos friendship with a Jewish boy he has met across the fence leads to unexpected consequences putting the audience in heartfelt disbelief.

This movie is touching and extremely emotional. Bruno has a kind and loving heart and showed it to Schmul who wore the “striped pyjamas” in nearby concentration camp. I like it how Bruno, the German and Shmuel, the Jew, become friends despite their differences and the rules they have to follow. My least favourite part of this movie would have been when they went in the gas chamber (the saddest part). I would recommend this to 13+.

  16. This is a touching, haunting and powerful movie that deals with the Holocaust. It is incredibly heartbreaking and has a cruel twist ending It deals with family, friendship and compassion. The story is told through the eyes of an 8 year old called Bruno. Living where innocence has no place in a world and where humanity has turned barbaric. It reveals each family member struggle to understand what the father is apart of. It reminds us to be very careful with what decisions we make as the consequences can be devastating. “Powerful and unsettling”.

The Film Adaptation of the book “The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas” intelligently captures the evil and sadness of World War II and the innocence and purity of children.
We see through Bruno and Shmuel, how the strength of friendship can triumph over the terrible wrongs occurring in the world. Despite their differences, Shmuel and Bruno become inseparable, helping each other in times of need and enjoying company in times of loneliness. Although I would strongly recommend reading the book first, I believe the this movie is very true to the novel and manages to communicate the significant events and themes of the novel.

A perfect description of the horrors endured by the Jews, young and old, is how I would describe this movie.
The movie starts with leaving us clueless; experiencing the war exactly how the young boy Bruno would experience it.
Then, it slowly starts dropping the heartbreaking truths.
If you want a good cry, this is the movie for you.

I wrote an essay on this in term 2 of year eight and came to a much clearer understanding of what really took place during the Holocaust. Bruno’s character is courageous and adventurous always with a cheeky little smile. But when he was faced with some of the everyday struggles of life as a young boy of a German commander during World War 2, his bravery was put to the test. This moving story is extremely moving with a powerful message and I recommend everyone to watch or read it as it will leave you extremely moved.

I really liked how two boys one from each side met and then a friendship grew, into what would hurt themselves and there loved ones. I think the movie is better then the book because it shows in greater detail about what had happened. The book was harder to pick up and get an image of what was actually happening. During Year 8, we are required to read the amazing book: Boy in the Striped Pajamas, which is based on an adventurous, young boy named Bruno who is forced to move from his beautiful home in Berlin to an ugly and depressing home near the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Bruno and his family move there due to his Father’s new job. Bruno does not enjoy their new home and tries to find something to do whilst at this strange and boring place. One day, he finds himself on his side of a fence in which people dressed in striped pajamas are placed on the other side. He becomes friendly with a boy his age named Shmuel. Without spoiling anything else, I really enjoyed this book and definitely shed a few tears. It is based in the eyes of Bruno and his confusion of the world around him and the innocence in which he possesses. It is a beautiful book, and for me to not spoil anything I mustn’t say what I’d like to change in the book, but maybe if the whole Holocaust never happened this tragic and touching book would have never been written! (not that I didn’t enjoy it, it really is just terribly sad!) But of course the introduction of Shmuel and Bruno’s relationship is a lovely part of the book. Of course I cannot relate to any of the characters, but I can try to imagine what it would be like in all of the characters positions and all of them play significant roles in the story. A beautiful and extraordinary book in which is almost meant for children, although it is much too dense and mature for a child to understand so I would say anyone over the age of maybe 11-12 should definitely read this book because it is really, really good. The movie is just as amazing, if not better! 10/10!

As the boys discover each other they build a very strong friendship outside the wishes of others. Neither of them really knew or cared about either of there status. The two boys were as best as friends as anyone has ever known. But as Hitler starts to kill all of the Jews the two boys find them selves in a bad situation. I cried so much in this movie it is so sad but such a great eye opener. The movie was easier to watch which sounds a bit ridiculous since you would think it’d be way more confronting but it made the plot line less confusing and better to understand the references to the horrific schemes that went on in real times. There isn’t a lot to say about this film though. The cast portrayed their characters well and there was not too many differences from the original novel. I did end up crying a lot, even if what made me burst into tears was just implied. The scenery and setting was very realistic looking and the director and producers really did capture the essence of the novel in a film suitable for all ages – above 12 of course. This movie is so sad! it is a fantastic film but it is just so deep and dark and wrong how the nazi people treated the jewish race. this is the story of friendship between schmuel and Bruno. bruno is the son of a nazi commandant and Schmuel is a young jewish boy in a concentration camp. “we are not mean’t to be friends, you and me, we are mean’t to be enemies.” it is crazy how friendship prevails in the strangest of places. I would recommend this movie to all people to watch, but be warned. it is very very sad. I would rate it a 10/10

What a great movie! I found the boy in striped pyjamas to be packed with interesting facts for me to learn although it was not a documentary. I found it to be a story of comradeship and strong bonds with other people. My favourite character would have to be bruno because he was one of the only characters in the movie to try and create peace between the Germans and the Jews. What happened to bruno was really sad. I strongly recommend this movie. I would rate it 8.5/10.

My favourite part would probably have to be when Bruno first meets Shmuel because its just so significant that he found another boy living near him so now he had someone to talk to. My favourite character would probably have to be Bruno because he was really nice to Shmuel. I highly recommend this movie to others, though you may want to have the tissues ready for the end.

  57. This is a extremely sad movie although I loved it because it teaches you a lot about what WW2 was like. I think my favourite character was Bruno because he is so adventurous and empathetic towards Shmaul. My favourite part of the movie was when Bruno gave a sandwich from his home to Shmaul. I liked this bit because it showed how caring Bruno was towards Shmaul which was really enjoyable to watch. This movie has a very strong meaning and a really good storyline too. I would recommend this movie to a lot of other people because you really get to learn about WW2 and it is also a really meaningful movie too. If you are into war then this is definitely the movie for you! I rate this book a 9/10.

The connection between the character is unbelievable, it seems like there’ve known each other for years. This movie is about a jewish concentration camp and i also liked how shumuel and bruno always talk and how bruno snuck food out for shumuel. I cried at the very end part when the mum was crying and the fathers was screaming it was very very sad. I would rate this movie a 10/10 🙂

The Boy in the striped pyjamas-
I really enjoyed this movie even though it did make me cry. It really showed how people didn’t respect the Jewish. I think it made you wake up to see how good you have it. The movie’s main characters were Bruno and Shmuel, they were such different kids and yet they got up pretty well. There are some parts of the movie that get a bit violent and make you want to walk away. Some parts of the movie I did find a bit boring, it was sort of dragged on for a while until it got to the point, but overall I would rate it about 8/10.

I liked watching this movie but I think it could have been better. I thought it portrayed the characters well and it did a good job of showing what life was like during the second world war. It showed the bleakness of Bruno and Shmuel’s situations well and the main moral which was that friendship could survive through anything. When I watched the movie and it looked just as I imagined it would be like when I was reading the book but it didn’t have some of the scenes I thought were important in the book and it didn’t have nearly as much detail as the book did. It was a very sad movie, especially when Shmuel was beaten up and at the end, but I found it a little bit boring and watching it one time was enough. Even though. Although the movie was not excellent, it was ok and I would recommend it for people that don’t know much about the Holocaust and are studying the book.

I loved this movie. This movie really explores the terrible time of the Holocaust well. It made me aware of the terrible things those innocent people had to go through and how unfair it was.
My favourite part of the movie is when Bruno meets Shmuel for the first time. Many things must go through his head as he meets him for the first time. I love how their friendship grows strong throughout the movie and it makes me realise that you can truly be friends with anyone.
My favourite character is Bruno. He is so young and oblivious to whats really going on with the ‘People behind the fence’. In a way his innocence and makes me very sad, the fact he knew nothing when he talked to Shmuel, when he sneaked into the concentration camp, and when he stepped into that gas chamber.
When thinking about what I would like to change in the movie I first thought, when they all get gassed at the end. But I realised that this really happened and couldn’t have been left out. I would recommend this movie to people aged 13+.

My favourite character is Bruno, because he shows great friendship even when he knows maybe he shouldn’t do some things he did to be in that friendship. My favourite part of this movie is when he discovered Schmuel and develops a great friendship with him. It was sad at the end, watch this movie to find out what happened. I rate this movie 9 out of 10 and I recommend this movie to everyone because I love this movie! 🙂

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas movie is great to watch and a great book to read. Young Bruno moved house because his Father was a General for Hitler. With adventures on finding what to do, he disobeyed his Father into going somewhere near the Jewish people, not that Bruno knew or understood. With a strong friendship with a supposing enemy, Shmuel have been secretly meeting every day. With a bit of a twist, sadly the friendship ends. With 2 young boys making mistakes and bad decisions, which is putting themselves in a more scarier position, the relationship with his family no longer lasts. Sad but enjoyable. Watch this movie!!!!

  73. This is a really sad movie but it it is also really good. I have read both the book and seen the movie and even though I must admit the book is better, the movie does a great job of telling the story. The saddest part is that the horrible things and that happen really did happen, though the story of the boys is fictional. This movie will make you cry out loud until you can’t anymore. I still rate this movie 8/10.

  74. l really loved this movie because it shows what life was really like when Hitler was around and it also shows that it wasn’t just hard for the Jews but also for the German’s. It shows the innocence and friendship of two eight year old boys. This is a really sad movie especially at the end. l love how the two boys, Bruno and Shmuel have a great friendship despite their differences. They live in two completely different sides of the fence but each side has its problems. I would recommend this movie to anyone aged 11+ and l rate it 9/10.

  75. This movie is the most saddest story line i have ever seen, this movie made me love Jewish books and what the Nazis did to the jewish. I would recommend this to people who do not cry in sad movies like this one. The least favourite part of this movie would have been when they went in the gas chamber (the saddest part). If i could change a part i wouldn’t it is great the way it is. You need to see this movie it will change the way you think!

I have always wanted to learn more about the Holocaust and this movie really put it into perspective. I like it how Bruno, the German and Shmuel, the Jew, become friends despite their differences and the rules they have to follow. The ending really shocked me and I would not have expected it. It was a great movie and I would recommend it for 13+.

  77. This is the best, but most sad movie you could come across. I really loved this movie and highly recommend this movie to everyone. My favourite part is when bruno makes friends with the little boy (Shmuel) who is in the concentration camp, i thought it was amazing that they could still be friends even though they shared a lot of differences especially knowing that Bruno’s dad was one of the soldier people. My least favourite, but probably the most interesting bit was what happened at the end, but im not going to say anything about it because it would give the story away and it is the sad bit. I highly recommend this movie and even the book to everyone it is a really great movie. i give it a 9 out of 10.

  78. I loved this movie, it made so many emotions rush through my head and made me think deeper than I ever have before. I have always been very interested in the Holocaust and enjoy movies and books on this subject. When I watch this movie it makes me want to go back in time and change the past, but I know I can only change the future. This movie is very educating for kids like me to learn about war and history. My favourite part in this book is when bruno starts to become friends with Shmuel and how they are too naive to care about their differences. My least favourite part is when bruno lies about ever knowing Shmuel and shmuel is then punished, this is horrible to see and makes me so sad to think that those things would have happened back in the Holocaust and that people could actually be so cruel to other human beings and couldn’t learn to see eye to eye. I could watch this movie over and over and still cry every time. I recommend this movie to anyone interested in history, sad stories or just someone looking for a good movie.

  79. I balled my eyes out watching this film, especially since I had just studied all the horrific things the Nazi’s did. Shmuel is by far my favorite character as he is so brave when I, in his position, would have been so terrified. He and Bruno are such innoccent character, like preps who just started school, and I just can’t believe how cruel the soldiers were. It isn’t a book I would read over and over again, but it is a book worth reading. The only thing I would have to say would improve the book would be if the beginning, before Bruno and his family go away, was shorter, as I found it dragged on a little. It was a sad but well written book.

  80. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes war and peace. I find it really sad when Bruno lies about how Shmuel stole the sweet witch he really didn’t Bruno gave it to him. It is also sad how Bruno dresses up as a Jew like Shmuel and he goes to find Shmuel’s father and they both get lost; And Bruno’s parents go and ty and find them but the time they relized where he was they had both been gased. The main point about the movie is how a German makes friends with a Jew and they visit each other everyday as soon as bruno moves near him. I would rate this movie a 10/10 because it is a good movie to watch and it is very sad too.

  81. I immensly enjoyed the movie The Boy in the Striped Pyjama’s. It was a heart renching story about an innocent German boy Bruno was caught up in the war, his father who was a german soldier and also his father’s persecution of the jewish people. After moving house and living close to a Jewish concentration camp, Bruno makes friends with a small Jewish boy through the wire fence of the camp and wonders why his friend is always in his ’striped pyjamas’. I give this movie a 10/10, the movie shows the innocents of the boys friendship who are unknowingly caught up in such stong racial prejudice.

It is so cute how bruno and his friend went to look for jewish boy’s father that went missing. The mother should have left with her two kids before one of them went in the prison. its so sad and a great movie at the same time. bruno is my favourite character and would have missed him dearly. you have to watch this movie.
