The blog for books and movies

For out-starting upstarts of all ages, here is a wonderfully wise and blessedly brief graduation speech from the one and only Dr. Seuss. In his inimitable, humorous verse and pictures, he addresses the Great Balancing Act (life itself, and the ups and downs it presents) while encouraging us to find the success that lies within us.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will indeed!

  1. Even though the book I’m about to mention is a picture book and doesn’t have many words I still think it was a very good book. When your younger this book is just a story but once you get older the book actually means something and you can see the message behind the whole book. The book is Oh the Places you’ll go by Dr Seuss. You may be thinking ‘what is she talking about, I’m not reading a picture book!’ or ‘that is so childish, I’m not even going to continue reading this review’ but please, hear me out.

My teacher read this book out to me in year 6, at first it meant nothing, I mean it was just a picture book. Once the teacher had finished she said, ‘ok, now that you’ve listened to that I want you to tell me the story behind it’. Everybody was confused, no one understood what it meant. After she read the book a second time I realised in a flash what it was about. What the book is about is actually in the title, The book is all about what career path your going to choose and how it’s not always going to be easy to continue in life. Some things will be hard but then it says how you get back up from tough situations. Now with these things in my head I put up my hand and said ‘ This book is about life’. That is exactly what this book is about and I personally think the message behind the book is something that every person in the world should hear and be aware of as they move through the stages in life the book talks about.

This book is good for all ages. Kids will love it because it’s a picture book and once people are older they will understand the meaning behind the book which will also be good for them. This book is so much more than a story book and I don’t think anyone who doesn’t read the book will realise how much they’re missing out on.
