The blog for books and movies

Scarlett’s in trouble at school. Again. With black fingernails and dyed ketchup-red hair, she’s not your average twelve-year-old Londoner.

So her mum-sick of trying to get her into another school-ships Scarlett to her father’s cottage in Ireland.

Having to learn Gaelic in a one-room schoolhouse and enduring a new stepmum and younger stepsister is just too much.

Scarlett wants to leave-until she meets Kian.

He seems too good to be true with his dark, rugged looks, kind nature, and horse named Midnight.

As Kian helps Scarlett let go of her anger, she begins to accept her family, her friendships, and most of all, her dreams.

Scarlette is a short sweet read. I was able to read this book in Lit circles with a group of girls. We enjoyed the book. This book is about a cheeky naughty girl that always get herself into trouble. She travels to ireland to stay with her Dad his wife and there daughter Holy. At the start Scarlett was not happy to be going to see her dad. When she gets there it is not all smooth sailing but in the end all goes well. This book shows you and teachers you life lessons about giving things a go. I truly recommend this book.

  2. Scarlett is a lovely book. I love it because it has so much personality and is completely different to any other books i have read. My favourite character of course would have to be Scarlett. She is inspiring because of how she turns her life around. This book has really a really good storyline and it captured me from the start. If you like a book that has romance, is happy and sad and has a good meaning behind it, definitely read Scarlett.

Scarlett is such a beautiful book. I love the idea of a young girl dealing with her changing life, and learning to accept change. After her father moves away, Scarlett becomes troublesome and a rebel, and when her mother can’t stand it anymore, she sends her to her father, in Ireland. Scarlett hates the decision, but thanks to a mysterious boy names Kian, she starts to discover the positive aspects in her life and open up to her new family. Scarlett begins to realise the wonderful people around her, and learns about herself and others around her.
This is an amazing book with a beautiful message about acceptance and solving problems. I recommend to anyone who loves emotional, dramatic, stories. Well worth reading!

My favourite part of this book is when Scarlett first meets Kian on his dark horse Midnight. I like this part of the book because it is so cute. My favourite character in this book is Holly as she is such a sweet little girl and tries her hardest make Scarlet feel comfortable. This is a great book that teacher you about love, friendship and trust. Scarlett is a fantastic book to read and will keep you wanting more.

Scarlett was a really good book by Cathy Cassidy.
The characters in the book were really engaging and I loved reading this book. Scarlett, the main character, made me really annoyed because I really wanted her to be nice to people and she’d be nice and then she’d just get angry again, but I also admired the way she kept on trying most of the time. Whenever she tried it always worked out in the end and the way she was described made me think she deserved it.
I think this book shows a really good lesson that nothing comes out of hating people that you don’t really know. And it also shows that judging and assuming things about people is never a good idea.
I definitely would recommend this book to girls aged above 9 or 10.

In class i was reading Scarlett and it was probable one of the best books i have ever read, it was emotional, funny, sweet and if you are reading this and you don’t know what book to read at the moment i would definitely say read this book! I love the characters in the book, because they all have different personalities, like Scarlett’s little sister looks up to her even though she isn’t every nice to her she really wants a big sister. Over all i would rate this book a 9 out of 10.

  7. i loved reading the book Scarlett it probably wouldn’t be a book that i would pick straight away but after i read it i loved it, it made me want to think about what was going to happen next and i would definitely would recommend this book to other people because they would love it. my favourite character was holly, her sweet little step sister, she really made me think about my sister. the thing i really didn’t like about this book was the ending because i really wonted something big to happen to make me wonder and think that i never thought that, that was going to happen. everyone that i know that has read this book they always talk about kian and if he is made up or not and i think she is imagining him because sometimes he is there and sometimes he’s not. but still i think this book is an anyone could read and like book.

A good book I have recently read is Scarlett. It is about a girl who always gets in trouble and always has a bad behaviour. She always does naughty things and makes you want to keep reading to see what she is going to do next. This book is filled with romance and other emotions. Scarlett is a really judgmental girl. Scarlet is a person who makes me frustrated at times because I want her to treat the people who are caring for her the same way. Sometimes I want to step inside her and change what she does. I want to grab a key and unlock her heart so I can hear all her secrets. I don’t know why she acts the way she does it makes me feel sorry for her parents and how much effort they put in to give her a good education. I recon deep inside Scarlet she feels hurt and isn’t being herself. This is a really good book and to watch someone change into their real self is amazing. You should go pic this book up now.

  9. I don’t normally like reading books and to confess I sometimes judge a book by its cover but as soon as I read the first page of Scarlett I couldn’t put it down. This book makes me feel mixed emotions at the start sometimes you hate the main character Scarlett and sometimes you feel sorry for her. So far there are no parts in the book telling you that she has a happy life. Scarlett is a very weird character. Sometimes when I am reading this book I would put myself in her shoes and ask myself if I would do that myself. For example when she walked out of school and ran away to Dublin but only made it half way. I thought to myself would I walk out of school and run away and I thought of cause I wouldn’t do that. Scarlett always judges something before she really gets to knew what it they like. Because she does that she would miss out on a many opportunities. If she didn’t judge the past 5 schools she would of been able to stay at, at least one of them and have a good reputation. In the middle of the book Scarlett started to get kinder and kinder witch was a bit strange but I could tell it was because she met Kian more often. He would always give her advice when ever she needed it. I could not believe that Scarlett would pierce her stepsisters noise with badge thats horrible. I felt Holly’s pain each time the badge touched her face. Why did she piece her stepsister all because of a silly old secret. I would never EVER hurt my brothers like that not in a million years. She should think before she does things. When Clare and Scarlet’s Dad found out about it I didn’t like how Scarlet’s Dad treated her, he said some really horrible comments. He said “Don’t turn Holly into a freak like you”! If I was in her precision and my Dad said that to me I would definitely run away like she did I feel sorry for Scarlett sometimes. This is an intense book that I would recommend to anyone, but somethings Scarlett does things that would horrify you so beware.I would rate this book a 8/10.

A great book to read for year 7 and 8’s. It is so relatable and you can imagine yourself being in that situation. It is about a girl who gets in trouble at school while living with her mum and is then forced to live with her dad. She doesn’t get along with her dad’s girlfriend or her kids. She stirs up trouble for the family but in the end she finds her way. I rate this book a 9/10.

  11. This book was definitely a good book to read for my English Task. It is so interesting to read about Scarlett and her ups and downs of life and how she deals with the many problems in her life. I definitely love how Cathy Cassidy made this book so hard to put down. Although I do admit at the start when I had only read a little bit, I thought it was going to be a really boring book I had to read for school. But as I started to read it more, and more, it started to get more and more interesting as the book went along, and I really enjoyed it and I would definitely read it again. My favorite character would have to be Scarlett, because she is so funny but dramatic, and really suits being the main character. I think a lot of people would be able to relate to her, because of the problems and thing she has to go through and deal with, which is what makes her character so great. I did feel bad for Scarlett in most points because several people were treating her badly and I think it was quite unfair on her. I recommend this book to anyone over 10 who whats a book to read that is full of drama and a lot of comedy. I give this book 8/10 because I really enjoyed it, and I think other people will too!

  12. This book was definitely the one I most enjoyed out of the other Cathy Cassidy books.
It was so interesting, especially the character Scarlett. Your first initial impression of her is that she is just an awful girl, but as you get to know her, you begin to sort of understand how she feels. Though, she is a rebel, with tomato hair, a pierced tongue and make up. I think she was just really sad about what happened to her life when her Dad left. Her life got turned upside down, so it wasn’t a wonder that she hated to see him, when Scarlett’s mother had had enough and sent her off to Ireland to her Dad. This book was never boring, though like most Cathy Cassidy books, she finds the love of her life, and he helps her along the way.

    A great book! I rate it about 8/10! 😀

I read this book for an english task and it was actually a really good book. At first I thought it was just be boring because it was a school book we had to read, but as soon as I started reading it it got me in the mood to start reading. This book is a great book for people that like naughty types of stories because I think she went through 6 school in a year because she kept being kicked out all the time. She has tomato coloured hair because she was a rebel and some people would take notice of her of course. The reason she was like this was because her parents had split up and she hated travelling to see each of them all the time. I rate this book a 8.5 /10

I read Scarlett not long ago and it was actually an interesting book that I really enjoyed reading. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 8 because I bet anyone would enjoy it. Scarlett is about a girl named Scarlett who is a moody rude girl who has to change schools a lot of times because of her attitude and no one thinks she is going to learn. But after she meets her dad after many years and finds out his not a bad guy after all, the book turned out to be a happy story. I actually think lots of people would enjoy this book because I didn’t really like reading books up until I started reading Scarlett and I would rate it about an 8/10

This is such an amazing book. I would definently read it again. This book is such an interesting book and is filled with so many surprises. At first I wasn’t liking the book much, but as I started reading more and more I really started loving it and it started to get really good. I was so shocked by some of the things that Scarlett did, but it made the book more interesting and really shocked the reader which was good. This book never got boring which is what made me never want to put it down. The book made you feel sorry for Scarlett at times when bad things happened to her. It really put you in her shoes and made you understand exactly how she felt. I felt so sorry for Scarlett when her mum made her move to live with her dad. There were also happy moments too. One of these was my favourite part of the book. This was when Scarlett saw her mum again after living with her dad for so long. However my least favourite part was when she got sent away to live with her dad because I felt really sorry for her. My favourite character in this book was Scarlett because she wasn’t afraid to stand up to people and be herself. She didn’t care what anyone thought of her. I loved this book and I really enjoyed reading and I would definently read it again. I would also definently recommend this book to others.

I really love this book. It would have to be one of my favourites. I loved how this book was really dramatic the whole way through and always made you want to keep reading. My favourite part would have to be when Clare falls off the ladder because it made me keep on reading to see if the baby or Clare had died. I also loved when Scarlett met Kian because he really kept her company and changed her behavior since he made her feel like she was living in a dream and make the right choices. My favourite character is Holly because she is funny and she goes for what she believes in. I didn’t really think Holly was going to look up to Scarlett because of her behavior but she didn’t turn out too bad. I really felt for Scarlett in some parts of the book because she has had a rough past. I am curious of how she went going back to London and her journey ahead. I would really like to know how Hazel turns out to be like, if she is good or bad. I also really want to know more about Kian’s adventure as well. Overall this book was exactly the type of book I like reading and thought it was AMAZING!

I really enjoyed Scarlett, and I have read it lots of times, because I think it is one of the best Cathy Cassidy books. Scarlett is a very true to life character, and they way the author has written it makes you feel like you are there with her from the start to end, and that is one of the many reasons I enjoyed this book. Another reason I enjoyed it was because it had lots of interest and suspense into what is happening, and I didn’t want to put it down. This is a book every young teenager can relate to, because me might not be as bad as Scarlett, but we know what it feels like to do something bad because we are angry. I love Scarlett and would read it over and over. Definitely a 9.5/10 and a 10-16 age group.

Scarlett is a great book, it is full of excitement and fun, I usually can put a book down pretty easily if i have to go out somewhere but this book i couldn’t stop reading. Every spare second i had i would read and read. The reason I like this book is because me being a 12 year old girl i can relate to her because sometimes life is hard and obviously she doesn’t handle her worries and troubles very well she just takes it out on others, but it teaches you good and valuable life lessons. It made me very happy to read that Scarlett was finally accepting of her new family and really it made her a better person going to live with her dad because meeting Kian changes her all around, i Think Kian has a good impact on the story because i always wanted to keep reading to see if he made the first move and kissed her. Overall a 8.5/10

  21. There was not a single thing I disliked about this book – except the ending of course! I was screaming at it, telling Scarlett to “turn around, turn around! No don’t just walk inside, turn around!!!!” The book itself was, well, magical. No other word can explain it. It was so exciting and it just kept getting better and better. The way that the characters, Scarlett in particular change throughout the book it wonderful. Scarlett goes from this red-haired rebel to an almost mystical person. At almost all times you are on her side as you discover more and more about the different characters and the plot unfolds. It brings out all emotions – happy, sad, angry, rebellious, etc. I couldn’t put it down! This book would be great for people aged 10 to 14. I rate this story 9.5/10 (But it’d get the extra 1/2 point if she turned around!!)

This story tells of adventure, romance, family, tolerance and comedy moments.

Some of my friends and I read many books together written by Cathy Cassidy. I love all her books (Angel Cake, Lucky Star ect).
Scarlett is a book about a girl named Scarlett, who just doesn’t fit in. She is sent off to live with her Dad in Ireland for a while. Whilst in Ireland, Scarlett learns many things about love, family, acceptance and life. Scarlett is a bit off everything when it comes to genres. Its romance, comedy, fairytale, reality and adventure. I loved this book and rate it 9/10 :):)
It’s a very enjoyable read and its definitely a book you pick up to read whenever you get a spare moment. I recommend this book to girls aged between 8 or 9 and up.

  30. Scarlett always wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. She’s grumpy, inconsiderate, troublesome and she has a bad attitude. Her Mum was so sick and tired of her antics that she sent her to live in Ireland with her father. Scarlett hates Ireland and everything about it. She can’t stand her father, or his new family and she complains and complains until she meets her knight in shining armour who may just help her see sense, Kian. Will Scarlett finally become more accepting of her family and treat them with respect? Or will she continue to treat them badly? You will have to read the book to find out!!
I reccomend this book to anyone! We can all relate to it in a way and that’s why i love Cathy Cassidy’s writing. Because she is realistic.
Overall, this is a must-read book and it is also very easy to read and follow the storyline
