The blog for books and movies

In Caitlin’s world, everything is black or white. Things are good or bad. Anything in between is confusing. That’s the stuff Caitlin’s older brother, Devon, has always explained. But now Devon’s dead and Dad is no help at all. Caitlin wants to get over it, but as an eleven-year-old girl with Asperger’s, she doesn’t know how. When she reads the definition of closure, she realizes that is what she needs. In her search for it, Caitlin discovers that not everything is black and white—the world is full of colors—messy and beautiful.

  1. I really loved this book. This book was sad but so gripping I could not put the book down. This book really shows me how lucky I am to be me and that we should always be grateful for the ones we love because you never know when their time is done. It was very interesting knowing how Caitlin felt and how she decided to respond to others actions. I rate this book a 8/10 and I would read this book again.

  3. I did mot enjoy this because I didn’t like the way the book was set out. I couldn’t tell who was talking when because the book didn’t have any talking marks and just the outline of the story was boring and unenjoyable to me. I didn’t like how it just went straight into the book and not explaining how Devon died and I thought it should have started when Devon was alive. Over all I give this book a 5/10 because I just didn’t enjoy it and I wouldn’t really recommend it.

Caitlin has Asperger’s. The world to her is black and white. Everything to her is confusing and upsetting. Before, everything got confusing, Caitlin went to her older brother, Devon, to rely on. But Devon has died, and Caitlin’s dad is so upset over the loss that he is just not helpful to her. Caitlin wants everything to go back to the way things were, but she doesn’t know how to do that. Then she comes across the word closure – and she realizes this is what she needs. Along the way Caitlin discovers that the world might not be black and white, but full of colour and happiness. And that she can make friends and enjoy her childhood like other kids her age.

Mockingbird suites only a few people because of the language used and the storyline has no action. I didn’t really enjoy the book because I found it very confusing and there wasn’t enough happening. I like the ending because they solve the situation and get over the loss of Devon. I didn’t enjoy the begging because everything came at me at once. I recommend this for non action seekers because it hasn’t got much action involved.

  6. The book MockingBird is about a young girl who has Aspergers, she does not cope well in difficult situations and struggles to fit in. One day her older brother Devon who always would help and tell her whats right and whats wrong, got killed in a Middle School shooting! Caitlin has to deal with the struggle of loosing her brother and also not having a Mother. Her Mother died previously due to cancer. So the only person left in her family is her Father! He is also not coping well, and is always sad which is not good for Caitlin. Caitlin goes to her counsellor Mrs Brooks each day at school. Mrs Brooks helps her with her emotions, manners, work and making friends! Even though this book is extremely sad and quite dull at some points, I would still recommend it. In the end there is a very happy ending and everything turns out great! Caitlin and her dad change the way they deal with the situation and help each other and make their own lives better! If you love a heart warming sad story, but happy ending you would defiantly love this book! It is also a very easy read!

I loved this book because I could see life from a completely different perspective. Caitlin the main character of the book has asperges which means she can’t read emotions. I think it would be such a hard life not knowing how people are feeling, especially when someone really close to you has passed away. In this case that close person was Caitlin’s brother. In the book I had to have empathy for her which is kind of hard because at times I couldn’t really relate to her. There could have been a stronger ending to the book, but apart from that I loved the story line and I highly recommend this book to others. I rate it a 4/5.

I really enjoyed the book mockingbird it was a very good read with so many different genres. My favourite character would have to be the main one caitlin, during the book Caitlin was a very strong girl but very quite and she put up with what ever came to her. She found many friends. Caitlin showed many more of her qualities in the book but that for you to find out. It is a very good book to read. I recommend it to everyone my rating for this book is a 4/5

I really loved this book but it was very sad because of the things she went through. I thought the ending could have been better but it was still very good. I would definitely love to read this book again but it wouldn’t have been the type of book I would have chosen in the first place. I love how in the end every thing turns out better than before.
