Josie Alibrandi lives with her mum, Christina, in the protective shadow of her Nonna, Katia and in ignorance of the identity of her father, Michael.

I recommend the novel ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ by Melina Marchetta.
The book is in the perspective of an Italian girl named Josephine Alibrandi, who lives in Sydney, Australia. She has always faced the issue of fitting growing up, but now in her private high school she is comfortable among her diverse personality friendship group. Josephine’s journey is about her search for identity. Josephine is brought up very Italian cultured and has had to face teasing through her childhood years. Although this concept does not relate to me I felt how it was written, I was able to understand and empathise her situations.
I loved how this book was able told from a teenage perspective and there were many themes that I could relate to such as; school, boys, etc. Josephine’s journey to finding herself and finding the man that has been missing from her life is truly intriguing and not to forget the family secrets she uncovers along the way.
I recommend this novel to any teenage girl, I rate it 8/ 10!

This book is amazing. I’m not sure if i’m yet to actually read this book for school but I have already read it and it is so amazing.
Josie Alibrandi is a teenage girl about to finish school. She’s always wanted to be in the “higher class” or be friends with the more “popular people” but instead she is in a friendship group with all the leftovers. She struggles with her italian heritage and the racism she receives from classmates . This book is truthful and is great for a teenage girl to read. It’s funny, sad and some times intimate.
I recommend it very much!

The book, “Finding Alibrandi” is a cultural book that I am currently reading. I am up to Chapter 20 (24 chapters in total). I love this book at the moment because it is a oldie but a goodie! It has moments where you can relate to the character (Josie Alibrandi) and moments when you understand how hard and frustrating it would be to meet your father that didn’t even know you existed! My favourite part of the book is that Josie has to pick between motor bike heart throb, Jacob Coote or family achieving, John Barton. She loves them both in different ways. I loved reading about her decisions because it is like your her best friend choosing which boy would be the best for her. My favourite character has to be Josie because of her great sense of humor and her funny back chatting moments. My least favourite moment was when Josie was listening behind the door to hear her Dad discuss to her Mum that he didn’t want to be apart of her life. This was making me feel bad for Josie, since I put myself in her shoes. I would certainly recommend this book to people that came to Australia from over-seas because she is a great role model to look up to since she speaks up for her culture and family. It is not only a great read to over-seas people but for people that enjoy real life moments that are hard to deal with, but get solved out at the end.

Looking For Alibrandi is a good book and I really related to it, being of an Italian background myself and a teenage girl. Though my situation is very different to hers, I related to the judgement given by parents and grandparents alike, always having their say which can become quite frustrating. Another aspect to the story which appealed to me was Josie’s struggle to define herself between Italian and Australian. I also connected to her character because her character felt genuine in the sense that she acts like a total teenager. She’s got sass, she’s dramatic and she’s completely and utterly flawed. I love how she speaks her mind out to the world, there’s always of buckets of emotions tumbling inside her and she is always trying to be tough in every situation. There was also a dabbling in relationships, and I liked this because it wasn’t the typical boy meets girl cliché but shows the difficulties faced by all people in their individuals lives which can effect a relationship. There are a few unexpected developments in the storyline which might not appeal to people expecting a “happy ending” to the novel however I really liked it and thought it made the book interesting.

Looking For Alibrandi is a really great book, I really enjoyed reading it and could not put it down.
I first read this book back in year 8 for English and it truly was a good choice of book to get us to read.
Josie is a really interesting and strong character, she has a very strong temper but just tries to have her own opinion and stand up for herself.
I enjoyed reading this book because it shows the real life of a girl of that age and the author deeply worked out how to get in her shoes.
This book involved many different genres including romance and drama sorta.
This book is a great book for teenagers because it is something that they would enjoy.

I thought that Looking For Alibrandi was quite a good book. It had some passionate scenes that really stood out for me. I quite liked how the author developed the characters throughout the story, it gave a nice vibe to the novel. My favourite part of the book would have to have been when Josie was with her family at the ‘tomato day’. I thought it was quite an iconic part of the book. My favourite character would have to have been Jacob Coote because he was quite a reckless character. He was so carefree and full of life, he didn’t care what anyone thought of him. I thought that his character was an important part of the book. I’d recommend this book to people 12+. I’d rate it a 7/10.

Looking for Alibrandi is a great book for people maybe 12 and over. Josie Alibrandi is a 17 year old girl who isn’t really accepted at school by neither her teachers or the students. She hasn’t ever met her Dad since he moved to Adelaide before she was born. She lives with her Mum but is usually at her very protective Nonnas house. This book is filled with romance and laughter which is why i love this book. I rate it a 9.5 out of 10.

Looking for Alibrandi is such a wonderful story.
Josie Albrandi lives with her mum and dad and is controlled under the watchful eye of her nonna. She is 17 and is about to go into her final year of school.
She doesn’t like her Italian heritage and hate Tomato Day and doesn’t understand her true self. He family is a bit crazy and the pressure is one as she begins to study for her HSC exams at an expensive private girls school. Then there is the fact that everyone is expecting for her to get into a good university and study law.
In the mix of all this, there is the boys and the romance. Josie gets tied up with teenage boys who want to have a bit of fun and before she even realises, she is caught up in a new world Then there is the tragedy of her boyfriends dying and the fact that her parents don’t understand.
She finally works out the true identity of her dad and the joy of being rebellious against her mum and nonna.
Looking for Alibrandi is so gripping and it is set around such a good age group and it makes it fun to read but also true. This book I would recommend to anyone over the age of 13 as it is a bit strong and has adult references. I love it and give it 9/10

At the start I found ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ a bit boring and slow but once it got into it i liked it alot more. Looking for Alibrandi has a great balance of being romantic but realistic. Josie seems to face normal problems that a typical 16-17 year old would face. My favourite character would have to be Michael Andretti because of his quirky character. He supports and comforts Josie and is a great dad to her. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 12.

This is a really good book that I have just read which is Looking for Alibrandi. It is about a girl who has never met her father before because he moved to Adelaide before she was born. Ever since then Josephine and her mother have been living in a flat near Sydney. She attends a private school named St Martha’s where she has an English scholarship because her mother can’t afford to pay her fees. St Martha’s is a very expensive private school and a lot of the students there cause her grief. This story starts off as a typical school journey until things begin happening that she would never have thought possible.
I really like this book because it talks about how she copes through all of her tough times and relates to some of the things that we may have to go through later in life.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in reading about the people who struggle through life and the way they cope with it.

I want to recommend the book it’s called Looking For Alibrandi. I first had to read this for school book. Before I read it I thought it was going to be a stupid old book where you knew what was going to happen. But it shocked me as soon as I started reading, all of that changed and I actually started finding the book a lot more interesting than I thought it might be. The charters become more and more better. I would recommend this book to people who are 12 and up! The book is a fans tactic book for everyone even if you don’t like reading you should read it because its amazing. There are a few things about the book that you should know before you start reading at the start it sounds boring but you have to give it a chance because the most amazing things and not so amazing things happen that you don’t expect!! I would rate this a 8.5 out of 10! Im not a big book person I’ve only read 5 books in the last 3 years and 4 of them where for school but if your like this then I’m sure you’ll love this book!

I would like to recommend the book ‘Looking For Alibrandi’. Although this story was quite different to the ones that I would usually read, I still found it very immersive and captivating. I also liked most of the characters in the novel to, the only character that I didn’t really like was Josie, which was a bit of a problem considering she is the main character of the story. Despite not liking Josie very much, I did find her story very interesting and I really liked the fact that she was really just trying to find who she was and where she belonged. So yes, while this book isnt one of my favorites, I still believe that it offers up a great read with a good story and some interesting characters. I give this book a 7/10.

I recommend the book Looking For Allibrandi by Melina Marchetta. This story has some great meanings that relate to our lives. Josephine Allibrandi is in Year 12 and this book is about her last year of school and all the changes that occur. I would recommend this book to any students above Year 7 because there are some parts that only mature students should read. Those who enjoy reading about real life stories, that are easy to relate to and to understand would love this book because Looking For Allibrandi ticks all those boxes. This book also was created into a movie but I would read the book first because the movie skips over a lot of important parts that are in the book.

I thought this book was actually really good even though we had to do it for year 8 English. The book follows a girl, Josie as she goes through the struggles of year 12 with the added pressure of meeting her father for the first time, the frustration of family and culture, the feelings of falling in love for the first time and the grief of losing someone close. Amongst these mixes of emotions and important events in her life, Josie needs to find who she really wants to be and who she is and finally become free or emancipated in her own terms. I really like how this book is written, although I can’t really relate to Josie’s life the author depicts her emotions into the text in a way that I can understand and step back from the book and know how each character is feeling and why they are feeling they way they are feeling. I think this book is a mature and coming of age book that every girl will enjoy.

I really enjoyed this book, and loved doing it for year 8 english. This a gorgeous tale of a young girl trying to find out who she is, while handeling a crazy family, new boyfriend and year 12 to top it all off. My favourite character would have to be Josie, as she is so easy to relate to. She is strong and brave, but the book also lets us see a softer side to her, one that is easy to feel connected too. I thought the author really told the story well, and it was interesting in the book how they flipped some of the scenes around and changed the storyline quite dramatically. I was also really intrigued by Josie’s relationship with her Nonna, as this had its fair share of ups and downs. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who loves a good read

I really enjoyed this book. It allowed you to ride the bumps of a teenager (Josie) in her final year of school. It was relatable and kept my attention, I wanted to read it! Throughout the book, you find out about Italian cultured traditions such as Tomato Day, where they make tomato soup/paste. I would recommend the book for 13 year olds +. There is many twists and turns and if you like a bombshell, this is the book to read! I found this book to be well written and would definitely recommend it.

It makes you remember that everyone is different to each other. Looking for Alibrandi is about a 17 year old girl who goes through some struggles at school, home and throughout her personal life. She doesn’t meet her father until she is 17 years old, and then she absolutely adores him. Throughout the book she gets a boyfriend, then they break up and then her friend dies. Lots of interesting stuff happens in this book. I couldn’t put this book down. It is such thriller of a book. I would recommend it to anyone 13+ because I dont think any one younger would understand some parts of it. I would give it a 10/10 because it is a superb book.

Looking for Alibrandi is a Fantastic book. It shows how different each and every family is from another family and I just think this book had so much detail in that I loved it so much! It talks about this 17 year old and some of the struggles she goes through at school, home and within her personal life. As soon as I picked up the book I couldn’t put it down because I just got so interested and engaged that I loved it so much. My favourite part of the book must be when she is with her dad and she finds out how much they can actually get along together. I have to read this book for Yr.8 so I decided to read it over the holidays and I ended up reading it twice and I really feel like I can connect to it in many different ways. I recommend it to anyone between the ages of 12 and 65. I rate it a 10/10 and when ever your able to put your hands on it do it because I bet you 100% that you will enjoy it.

I absolutely loved this book! I read the whole book in one day, It was fabulous. At first, I only started to read it because I wanted to read something and it was the only book I had not read in the house, also because it was for school and I wanted to get a head start. Once I had read the first chapter, I was addicted, I read chapter one… Then continued with chapter two, and after 5 minutes, I was already on chapter 7! I could relate to her being a wog and all, felling as if when people call you a wog you don’t like it, but if it is someone the same culture as you says it, it seems normal. It almost made me cry when John died though… He was such a sweet guy! I think it is a great book for people 13+ and after I had read the book, I started to watch the movie! I loved this book, I rate it a 10/10!

This book was absolutely fantastic! I am not a fan of reading but Looking For Alibrandi is definitely a favourite. The only reason why I read it in the first place was because it is a Year 8 English novel at Sacred Heart. I am so glad that this was selected not only because it was a great read, but because the story line is perfect for our age group. Josie explains her thoughts and struggles through her last year of high school, whether they be about her family or at school. I found this book particularly interesting because Josie is Sicilian, like me, and has the same traditions. e.g Tomato Day which she calls Wog Day. We also have similar character traits and I understand a lot of what she thinks of her family. I highly recommend this book to anyone aged 13+ and I rate it a 9/10.

I just recently read this book and was really intrigued as to what Josie was going through. She was forced with so many problems that can make or break her. All in the same year she sits her HSC. This book about drama, romance and so on, was both captivating and exciting. Reading each word, I can picture it in my mind but as I try to picture myself in her position, it would change your perspectives on life. I thought Josie was a really interesting character besides how she treats the people around her. She recognises her mistakes and tries to make everything better. I would rate this book a 7.5 out of 10. This book didn’t interest me at the beginning but as I opened it, I couldn’t put it down. I learnt never judge a book by it’s cover and sometimes you just have to read it, to know what you think.

This book was really not my favorite. I’m not very fond of romantice books and all that kind of stuff so I wasn’t really looking forward to reading it but it actually turned out to be ok! It wasn’t too bad. It’s a really different kind of story with heaps of stories all turned into the one. I think anyone over the age of 13+ would love this book! You just have to stick too it and don’t give up half way through!

This book despite how long it took me to actually get started turned out to be one of my favourite books of all time! I really do admire the strength that Josie has throughout the novel to still remain faithful to her culture but also being able to mingle with the outside world. At the start I thought she was just an average stuck up girl, but as the novel went on I found it extremely interesting. This book is very well written and I recommend it for a really good read !

I enjoyed reading this book although I didn’t much like Josie which is odd because she is that main character. The reason why I didn’t like Josie is because she was always complaining and although she had it tough she wasn’t prepared to see things from other people’s point of view. I also didn’t like how she would always jump to the conclusion of how hard her life was and how it was all her Nonna’s fault. So I suppose if I could change one thing in this book it would be to change the main character, which I know sounds harsh, and I guess that at the end of the day Josie’s naiveness and selfishness added to the book because that way she was able to learn from her past and change her attitude for the better. My favourite part of this book would probably be when John dies, not because I like how John dies but because I really enjoyed reading this part and I like how it was written like it actually happened and like a real person had experienced – no clichés. My favourite character in this was probably Marcus Sandford because although he was only recalled through stories told by Nonna he seemed like one of the realest characters in the whole book and one of the bravest. My least favourite part of this book is probably when Josie is talking to Jacob about how unlucky she is to have culture and how lucky he is, this really annoyed me (probably more than it should) because Jacob had lost his mum and it’s hard to believe how selfish Josie was to say he was lucky! I’m not sure if I would recommend this book to someone else because when ever I read it Josie made me really angry, but I know some other people really enjoyed it so lets just say it wouldn’t be the first book i’d suggest.

I first read this book when I was in year 8. At first this book didn’t really make to sense to me and once finished reading it, it was a book that had no meaning to me and I was unable to understand what she was going through as she was in year 12 and doing her HSC (VCE) exams. But now as I am older and understanding more of her stress that she went through with this I see how she felt and can finally connect with the character. Even though I am not in year 12 yet I can see how Josephine felt during her exams and the hardship she faced at school and in social life. Josephine really spoke to me because she was a true women of her word and would never hear anything wrong about her culture (italian) in that time she was almost forwned apoun for before italian and being a child to a mother who had her when she was a teen. Josephine doesn’t talk no for an answer and I and many others very much admired her for that. I give this book a 7 out of 10 .

This book demonstrates challenges, and triumphs a teenager faces. Josephine Alibrandi is the main character in this book, and it based on herself finding herself. It is an amazing book and very inspirational, however there are some shocks in there too. This book is available for anyone to read, however if you go to SHC save it until you Year 8 because you need to write an essay on it. I would give this book a 8.5 / 10!

This is a great book for all teenagers. It demonstrates the challenges that teens face on day to day bases. It is about a girl who is looked after by her single mum and is faced with many difficulties. She is faced with death and love. She is a girl who is trying to find out where she fits in the world and all she wants is freedom. I would recommend this book to anyone at any age.

I really enjoyed reading this book (Looking for Alibrandi), I thought it was funny, inspiring and dramatic but also realistic. I could relate to a lot of events and people in this book and especially how Josie is around her mum and friends. My favourite part was probably when Josie found out John had passed and even though it was the saddest part it was my favourite aswell! Because it was so heartfelt and sad and filled with emotion, and the way Melina Marchetta portrayed Josie’s feelings toward this event made me cry. It is a beautiful book with some insight on an average teenager eg. WAY to much drama! I think in the book Josie’s mother should have found out about Michael Sandford like in the movie and Jacob Coote and Josie should have gotten back together in the end also like the movie. I like Josie’s character and i’m sure most teens in the world would find a bit of similarity between Josie’s thoughts and feelings and their own. I rate this book a 10/10!!!

This book is great for those who love novels about drama and romance. It’s ideal for high schoolers, specifically girls, because part of it is a love story, which girls love, and the other part is about discovering secrets. The characters in this book are people you can connect with and learn new things about them at the same time as they do. Josephine Alibrandi, the main protagonist, is my favourite character because, throughout the novel, she becomes a happier person and is a character all readers can relate to in one way or another. I recommend this book for those who love romantic drama novels and are young girls.

Josie’s story reflects on anyones live who isn’t in the higher class of society or is judged. It shows how she gets through her life and faces the adversity through out the book from small at the beginning to large at the end. This book was really hard to get into, but once I did I spent 3 hours sitting in the chair of my room reading it until it was finished! I don’t think my age group (14) is ready for this book but I still enjoyed it and would recommend it to any good reader. Josie always stood up for herself (wrong or right) and I think that we can all learn a valuable lesson of life from each of the characters in this book

Looking for Alibrandi is by far one of the best books I have ever read. At first I wasn’t sure about it, but once I got into it, it started to get really good. I found myself not wanting to put it down. I really loved the way this book puts you in the characters shoes. It helped you really understand how Josephine was feeling, whether she was sad, happy or excited at times. My favourite character in this book was Josie because she was very stubborn and always stuck up for herself. I liked how she always had something to say and never let anyone put her down. I really loved how every now and then the book would shock you. Some of the things that happened in the book, really shocked me as I would never have thought that they would happen. That is one of the things I liked most about this book. You never knew what was going to happen next. The book was at times really sad and then it could be really happy and exciting too. This was good because it meant the book was not ever boring. I really loved this book and I even learnt things from it too. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 13.

Looking for Alibrandi is an interesting novel. At first the blurb did not interest me nor did it seem like the type of book I would read if I were to go to a book store and choose one to buy. But the story line was not as soppy as I thought. Melina Marchetta’s book took at least a third of the book to actually get into some action and was not just an introductory. But once it started to engage me it was a book that I could not forget about. The novel is very different to what I have ever read before. I am not really into the ‘finding yourself’ kind of books but this book has swayed my point of view. I rate this book a 7/10.

Looking for Ali Brandi by Melina Marchetta.
This book is probably one of the best books I have ever read. It was hard for me to relate to it in the way of having a strong back round culture although I could relate to some of the feelings that were spilt onto the page. This book brings you though feelings of anger, happiness, anguish and celebration. It shows you how something small can take you over the edge. It depicts so clearly how some people have a wall over their emotions and how you are never able to see how they really feel inside. Looking for Ali Brandi made me aware of those around me and how they might feel and act although not show it obviously. My favourite part of this book is when she finds a boy and they go through love and heartbreak. The best part is when she finds out who she really is.

Looking for Alibrandi is a great book. It is a perfect a mixture of romance, curiosity and many issues that all really seem to work out in the end. My favourite character is Josie because she is pretty stubborn, and although this isn’t always such a good quality it seems to suit her and clearly she has inherited it from her mother. My favourite part of the book was when Josie and her friends wag school to go on a bus, and actually get caught, this is a valuable lesson for her, and she soon finds out that she was actually ment to get school captain. As Josie found out this I felt sorry for her but I also think it was a good wake up call for her to see what she actually could achieve if she wasn’t so irresponsible at times. I rate this book a 8/10 and recommend it for anyone who likes stories with many secrets, issues and surprises, I think the age group for this book should be 13+.

‘Looking for Alibrandi’ – Melina Marchetta
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I could relate to this book so much because of Josephine’s background. I understood what she was feeling, all her emotions, angry, sad, happy, loved. This book is a great book, as it is based around a teenage girl, who has to deal with family & friensd, school, love and social problems as well as trying to find the person who she really is. She challenges herself to be someone she is not, but finally realising, she can not change herself her family or her past, as much as she wants to change her life and the life she was brought up in, she cant, and she gradually learns to respect her traditions and cultures that her family holds. My favourite part of this book is when she is kind to her father, and introduces him to her life. This is an important part of the book, because it shows great forgiveness and respect to her father.
I rate this book a 10/10 and I recommend this book to everyone.

I really enjoyed this book. Many people told me it was really bad and boring but I found it very interesting. I liked the way there was heaps of culture included in the story and how most of the situations sort of related to people our age maybe a bit older. I really liked how the author describes the characters and I could picture them all so well. I liked the twist and turns that happened in this book, not only Josephine but heaps of other characters. This story has a good message that it is trying to get forward. I recommend this book to anyone over 13! 9/10

At first when I read the first 2 paragraphs I was thinking ” this…is…so…BORING!”
but as I read more chapters, the more I got absorbed into the story.
I like how Josephine Alibrandi (protagonist) is so honest with her feelings and her life is really interesting, but in some moments, sad.
At the start of the book, the message is unclear, but when you finish the book it educates you that the Looking for Alibrandi is about accepting who you are.
I really love this book but I wouldn’t recommend it for children under the age of 13 because in some parts it is not suitable.
It is a really interesting book and I think that people 13+ should definitely read this and give it a go! 😀

This book is about an Italian teenager called Josephine Alibrandi. She is completing her final year at St. Marthas, a catholic school which she is on a scholarship to attend.This is the year when she discovers who she really is and she meets her father for the first time and gets to know him. Josephine has an unusual way of reacting to being Italian and the incidents that happen at school. I don’t think she really likes being Italian at the start of the book but at the end she learns to except the fact of who she is. I really enjoyed this book as I couldn’t put it down because I just wanted to read more.

I really like this book !! particularly because it is not one of those normal books that you have to read for school about history and a really important moral to it. This book is really great because it does teach you some lessons and raises important issues that teenagers face today such as abuse, and family issues, also finding your place among friends at school. I really enjoyed this book because it kept you wanting to read more. I can’t wait to write the essay on it because it will have so many issues and points to raise.

it was such a good book, it was so interesting, I read it twice in a row because i loved it, I feel its a really relatable book for some people because lots of people go through situations that she has, I am excited to be doing work on it for school and reading it again. Some times i felt like i could relate to Josephine because this was like it had been told like it had happened to the author, what i could relate to was how she was with her grandma because some times my grandmas act like hers do and it get really annoying. My favourite parts of the book is when she is with her boyfriend, he is so cute and i would love to have a boyfriend like that. When i read this book, i can imagine how the character look like, what the surroundings appear as and what they are doing. I would rate this book a 9/10 and it would be for over 12 because there is a bit of swearing but i think that really captures what teenagers are like. I think many people would like this because its really interesting, and makes you want to read more and more a night and over and over once you have finished from cover to cover. Its really relatable, cute and fun, its a little sad at some times but thats what makes it so interesting and gets you thinking and wondering what it would be like if that bad things didn’t happen.I LOVE THIS HEAPS 😀 I think every one should read such a great book like this!

This book is fantastic. It can defiantly be related to the real world which makes it much more interesting. It is fictional, but it almost feels as if it is non-fiction. My favourite part of this book would have to be when Josephine brought home her boyfriend. I liked this part because it could defiantly be related to real life. Meaning judging a book ( person) by the cover. Not what was really inside. This happens all the time in real life. My favourite character was Josephine’s mother because all she wanted to do was take care of Josephine but with her mother telling her she is doing it wrong the whole time it is a bit difficult for her. However she never even thinks of not helping Josephine. I can’t really relate to any characters as such but I can relate to a particular event which would be being judged before the person even knows you. My least favourite part of the book would be every time their ‘grandma’ would be rude to Josephine and her mum. This wasn’t fair and this would be the one event I would change if I could. I would defiantly recommend this book to others as it is a fantastic read. I would rate it an 8/10 and would recommend it to people age 12 and above. The type of people that would enjoy this book would be people who can relate to real life situations because I think this is what this book does.

I recommend the book Looking For Alibrandi as I think it is a great read for any teenage girl. I have just finished reading it and I keep finding myself opening up the book and reading it from there. This book is really enjoyable to read. I couldn’t put this book down and had it finished quickly due to that. looking for Alibrandi is about a young girl named Josephine who is part italian and Australian. When i first read the title I thought I had it all figured out but how wrong I was. Not only is this book about her finding her father it is also about her finding herself. She learnt to be herself and to not be what everyone wanted her to be. Josie lives with her mama and nona. Josie despises her nona at the start of the book but near the end she learns that there is more to her nona then he could of ever thought and come to understand her. This book has lots of cultural dramas as well. When Josie finds her father her life is starting to feel complete. She has a father, a mother a boy friend and the most amazing friends. But then something happens that turns her world pear shaped. This book has everything. I recommend this book to people aged 13+ as it has some inappropriate scenes for younger people.
I love this book and I guarantee you will as well!!

Looking For Alibrandi is a great book for any teenager girl out there who is questioning who they are, and what is happening with their life. I can relate to this book as I am of italian descent, and I am sometimes called Australian, but I feel Italian as well. I felt that Josephine was having a very hard time in her life, and the way she coped with it was very interesting. Some parts of this book are hard to understand and take a few times to read over, but they all add together to make sense at the end of the book. So if you are reading this book and are confused, don’t worry as it all eventually makes sense. I give this book an 8/10, and if you like romance, comedy, drama and you are a teen girl, read Looking For Alibrandi!

Josie Alibrandi is an illegitimate scholar at a strict, upper-class Catholic school, placed in Sydney. She is italian, so she has to put up with her community always gossiping and shunning her mother and herself, because of her mother’s young age when Josie was born. Josie is also in her final year in High school, so she has to think about her future, and Uni life. This year, she will find love, suffers terrible tragedy and finds the identity of her father.
I really enjoyed this book. I found it entertaining, and it had some good life lessons. I rate this book an 8/10, and recommend it for anyone 13+ Its a great read and I definitely recommend it!!

Looking For Alibrandi
I recommend the book Looking For Alibrandi as I think it is a great read for any teenage girl. Although it is set back before most of the teenagers these days were born, it is still a fantastic book. The main character has to deal with many challenges that come with growing up which I am sure there are so many girls out there who can relate to some of the things she has to face. I would recommend this book to any girls aged about 13 to 20. It has won many awards which just proves how god this book really is. I don’t have a favourite character in the book but as each of the characters are so different and have so many different sides to them, there will almost certainly be a character for everyone. This book was very cleverly written so give you snapshots of the lives of not only the main character but also several other people in the book. The main character Josie is a person that you can both love and be frustrated with all in the same chapter which makes the book never dull. I think everyone should give this book a chance and see what they think for themselves.

Looking for Alibrandi is one of my favourite books. I really loved and enjoyed reading this novel. I didn’t have a favourite part because I loved the whole book so much equally but I do, however, have a favourite character. That being Josie because I admire her courage and commitment about and towards her religion. She stays strong even when she is teased about her illegitimacy and sticks up for herself when she is in the toughest of times. You only really read about one major downfall that Josie experiences and many little ones that surround that certain event. I also loved this book because it interested me the whole way through and I think a good book always does exactly that. I really really really recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good read and I hope you love this book as much as I loved it!

Looking For Alibrandi is one of the better books you have to read for school. It has a meaning and is educational but it also has an interesting story line that teenagers can relate to. With lots of very different charectors such as Josie, Nonna, Jacob, John, Christina, Micheal and Sera your never bored. I personally found her relationship with Jacob more interesting than her relaitionship with her grandmother but it gave you a good perspective of how different generations can be. I recomend this book to girls who are 13 and older because this book has some parts that aren’t suited for people younger than this age. An amazing read though 🙂

“Looking for Alibrandi” written by Melina Marchetta is centred around seventeen year old Josephine Alibrandi and her close friends and family. The book highlights the difficulties Josephine goes through in her senior year and how she over comes them. It shows how she grows as a person and how she achieves her emancipation. I rate this book a 5/10 simply because I could not relate to Joosephine and I didn’t like her personality but many other people seem to like it so it is probably just me. I would recommend this book to girls of the age 12 and up.

I didn’t like this book very much. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters and I felt as though the story line had to much going on. I also didn’t think that the ending was very good. The character that I felt I liked was John because he was the most likeable and I felt was best developed. I would recommend it to anyone over 13 and give it a 3/10

This is a great book. I love how I can kind of relate to the story, because of her Italian heritage. This book is full of different emotions and I really enjoyed the book and you always find out different things un expectedly which I love in books. Looking for Alibrandi was very interesting, throughout the whole book and really makes you appreciate and realise how important family really is. We watched as Josephine was heading towards reaching her emancipation. You watch her grow throughout the book and learn to love her quirks and annoying habits. I could relate to her in parts where she stressed about small things, but when you put things into perspective, they aren’t actually as bad as you thought. This book is great for any teenager especially, as they can relate but also adults, who have been through most of the things Josephine is experiencing at the moment.

I only read ”Looking for Alibrandi” at the start of this year, but I had read another book by Melina Marchetta (Saving Francesca) and I had hoped that this novel would have Italian influence woven between its pages. And I was right.
I can connect with so many things in this novel, Tomato Day, stuffed eggplant and the Mourning Periods, although Josie, the main character, doesn’t particularly like them. I’d recommend this book to anyone with Italian background who wouldn’t mind stepping back and having a bit of a laugh at how slightly ridiculous our culture can be.

Looking for Alibrandi is one of my favourite books of all time. I have never felt such a relation to a book character before. The protagonist Josie, is a very relatable character, and me being Italian as well as her, helped me connect with the character more. Looking for Alibrandi, is about a young Italian girl named Josie Alibrandi. When I first read the title to this book, I thought that Josie was probably going to run away and everyone was going to go looking for her. – A typical tale. But as I got stuck into the book, I realised, it was not about her running away, but it is about her discovering who she is deep inside. Discovering who she wanted to be, not who she had to be. I really enjoyed reading this book, because each page was more captivating each time. I found it difficult to put down!
This novel, is about Josie Alibrandi. An Italian girl living in the city of Sydney. She is forced through many hard times- through love, family, friends and school. The life of a teenager, wrapped into the mind boggling pages of this book.
My favourite characters, were John, Josie and Jacob. My least favourite character was ‘Poison Ivy’ In the words of Josie and her friends. Although, towards the end of the book, with the hardships they face, I honestly began to like Ivy a little more, as her character was displayed in a more compassionate way.
I would recommend this book, to people 13+, because there are some parts of the story which would be inappropriate to people under that age, because they would most likely lack the understanding. I would rate this book, a big 10 out of 10! I definitely recommend this story!

This book is all about a girl name Josephine Alibrandi. It is a book that when you start reading you just cant put it down. When you are reading it, its like you dont know what is going to happen next so you have to keep on reading. This book is full of drama and romance and is great for girls from year 7 on-wards. I dreaded reading this book for school all year, but when it came around to reading it, i found my self reading ahead and telling any one about it who would listen! it is a book about a very confused 17 year old girl who struggles to find her self in society…. or that what she thinks, Josie (the main character) goes through a journey of self discovery in her final year of high school where she goes through allot from family issues to boy problems and school miss-hapes.

looking for Alibrandi was a fantastic book full of excitement and leave you on the edge of your seat the whole way through the book. It has some happy bits and sad bits i really dont like the way she got treated. I read this book in about 1 week i enjoyed it that much i really think you should read it you wont regret it. i would recommend 13 years and up and i would rate this book a 9/10 🙂

I finished reading this book a couple of weeks ago and nearly cried by the end of it! It was so sad because I felt like I had grown so close to the characters and I didn’t want to turn the last page and find that I was finished the book completely! I love this book, it shows all the things that teenagers go through and all the things that can go terribly wrong and really good! I love the way that the book is writing and the way she has added comedy and made it a funny read as well. 10/10 for this book! I love it so much and I will defiantly read it again!:D

I read this book over the school holidays and think Looking for Alibrandi is a fantastic read. read.
The story is based on the life of a 17 year old teenager who is just starting to get to know her father. This book is a lot about relationships and romance.
I loved reading looking for Alibrandi because it was very engaging and every page I read I just wanted to read more and not put the book down. Every chapter you read you have a clear picture in your head about what you are reading and have much more of an understanding about what is going on.
In this story there is a lot of conflict between Josie (main character) and her Nona (grandmother), however on the other side of all the dispute there is still a strong love and forgiveness of one another.
My favourite part in the book is when Josie describing her family catch up’s because it makes me think about her culture and family members.
My favourite character in this book is Josie because throughout the book she is a strong willed character and will challenge what her family has to say but is also still discovering who she really is inside.
Throughout this book there was lots of tension, comedy and romance which I believe really make reading the book so much more interesting.
I would definitely recommend this book to readers aged 13+ because there are some parts in the book where it goes into some detail and have some complicated words but I would definitely tell people to read it!

I also like how the book relates to 17 years olds and what problems they might encounter. i liked the journey that Josie took from start to finish and the problems on the way. I recommend looking for alabrandi. I don’t really understand why it is not on the linc because we had to read it for school. Anyway it is really interesting and has romance in it as well. I thought that i could relate to it a little bit but i loved all of the family dramas and every emotional bit in the book. I recommend this book to 13 years and over. Its really great lic should have so many copies!

I liked the book looking for Alibrandi although I did think at some spots it did get boring, the book dragged on a little bit. I would recommend this book to all teenagers, Josie ( the main character) has many problems to deal with so I think that some teenagers know how Josie is feeling. Josie comes from a very strong accented Italian family. Josie is looking for her dad, she had not really met him in her past so she thought this would be the perfect time. In some parts of the movie is doesn’t really enjoy her dads company, but in others parts he comes in handy.
I would recommend this book to all teenagers, I rate this book 7/10.

Looking For Alibrandi is a story about a girl that feels she does not belong. She feels this because she is half Italian, she has no father and also she is at a school only because she is on a scholarship. It is a very good novel that I really enjoyed reading. As I read through this book it was getting to the point where it was hard to put down. Secrets come out of this book and you just want to keep reading. I really loved the part when Josephine realised who she was, she began to realise a lot of things including, it didn’t matter what anyone else thought of her, she started to get on with her Dad, she understood her Grandmother. Her friends passing had a huge impact on her, she realised her life really was pretty good and she didn’t have as much pressure as she thought she did. I really enjoyed reading about Josephine’s transformation throughout the book. My favourite character is definitely Josephine and I enjoyed the way she overcame all of her problems throughout the book.I definitely recommend this novel to everyone who loves a dramatic story. I recommend this book to people in year 7 plus. I rate this book a nine out of ten because i really enjoyed it!

i have recently read this book and thought it was great, because i love the whole storyline of it and i wouldn’t change a thing! I loved Josie and thing that the author did a really good job at describing ehr and putting a picture in your mind about what looked like and how she acted. Like i said i wouldn’t change a thing, but my least favourite part is when someone very special to her dies, i wont tell the people who havent read this book yet who it is. I recomend this book to anyone in year 7+ or to anyone who likes romantic comedy.

I would recommend Looking for Alibrandi to teenagers as most teenagers can relate to the problems that Josie is having. It is a great book that proves just how powerful the mind is and that life is never going to be perfect and that it’s the imperfections in life that make life perfect.
My favourite character is Josie as I can relate to her very minor issues in life that despite seeming huge at the time don’t turn out to be that big. I loved the journey she made from the start to the end of the book to achieving happiness.
I would give this book a 7/10 and think that it’s a book that everyone would enjoy.

I have recently read this book and thought it was great. It is a drama based on a true story. It is about a girl and the drama she goes through in her teenage years. The story is mainly about Josephine Alibrandi, or Josey as she is known by her friends and the changes that take place in her life and many other teenagers. She lives with her mum, and has never met her father. He left her mother when she was born. One day while she was visiting her grandma. Her father turns up at the door. Happy, surprised, angry and in disbelief she quickly races out the door and runs home. This is a main event in this story as throughout, she gets to know her father better and better. she also falls in love and someone that she has been very close to for a very long time passes away. ‘Looking For Alibrandi’ is a great story for teenagers and adults that are going through changes in their life.

Looking For Alibrandi is a great book for girls from year 7 and onwards because it is full of drama and romance that we may not be able to relate to in those parts, but it isn’t so dramatic and romantic that it doesn’t seem realistic. But it still has parts that people can connect with; learning new things and accepting them, finding out what you really want and not backing down. My favourite character was Josephine because she matured through the story and I didn’t like her at the start of the book, so when she grew up she turned into a smarter and happier person. Despite the fact that we had to break down the novel, take notes on everything and write a long essay about it, it is a fantastic novel and I am glad it was a book that the school suggested to read.

Looking for Alibrandi to me was all about a girl just trying to put the pieces of her life together and when her life finally comes together throughout the book it all falls and crashes and she has to start building again. This book has so many different things that happen throughout it there is lots of drama, fighting, abuse, hate, sadness and happiness but the book makes sense instead of jumping from feeling to feeling. I read this book in Term 2 English this year, and loved it! Although we had to go over it numerous times and outline every single little detail, it really helped me to realise how everything worked and the tricky little quotes I needed to remember!
This was one of the best books I’ve ever read, it really was! The way Melina Marchetta writes makes you feel like you’re not watching the situation unfold, but that your actually part of it, through Josephine’s eyes.
This book really shows the restraints and rules attributed to multicultural societies nowadays. No matter how many times we insist we welcome foreign cultures into Australia, there’s always the odd racist comment or something suggesting otherwise. This book shows the reality of people in that situation, through 17 year old Josephine’s eyes, a teenage girl in her last year of High school.
Throughout this book, Josephine is ‘Looking for Alibrandi’, trying to find herself. She perseveres through relationships, family arguments, uncovered secrets from the past and breaking girls’ noses with textbooks, and in the end she realises, she’d found ‘Alibrandi’ a long time ago.

I had to read this book for English this year. It was amazing! there is so much detail and emotion and it makes you not want to put the book down. I don’t know who chose the book for the year 8’s to read, but whoever it was I want to thank them! I would probably never have picked up this book otherwise because it’s not really me, but i am glad that i had the chance to read it. My favourite part is when Josie kisses Jacob Coote !! they make such a good couple ! I feel really sorry for Josie when something really sad happens to one of her friends that is very special to her (I won’t give away what happens, but it is sad). My favourite character is Michael Andretti because no matter what he sticks by Josie’s side once they get to know each other. i would recommend this book to people at the age of 12 and above because you have to be mature to understand some of it. I never thought I would be saying this but, I actually enjoyed writing an essay on this book! 🙂

I would like to highly recommend the novel Looking For Alabrandi. I did this novel in English this term and i just loved it. The whole story line was put out so great and my favourite Character would Jacob. He thinks his all so cool and wears what he wants. That reminds me of my cousin. I would recommend this for boys or girls older then 13 as any younger may not understand as there alot in the novel.

When I was reading Looking for Alibrandi I really enjoyed it. I had to read it for school and I thought that that it was a good choice by the teachers. I would read it again soon because I enjoyed it so much. It’s about Josie trying to find out her about her self and her traditions about her italian backround. Josie and her mum have a good relationship although they fight a lot and sometimes don’t agree on things. throughout the book Josie realises that her significance of being italian isn’t such a bad thing and she forms a good relationship with her boyfriend Jacob Coote. I recommend it to everybody! 🙂

OI had to read this book for school and it is actaully really good even though i thought it was going to be bad. I would reccomend this book to anyone and everyone, and I do! I enjoyed Looking For Alibrandi because it was a book that I could relate to myself. Josie and I have a few things in common such as having an Italian background and having the same Italian day traditions. I loved all of the twists and puzzles in the book because while I was reading it, I never guessed that the ending would be like this. I enjoyed reading it and it was great that it was set in Sydney Australia. I think Josie and Jacob were a cute couple but they were very different and had hardly anything in common. I liked that there was mixed emotions throughout the book. This made it more entertaining because it meant there were lots of things happening in it. I rate this book an 8 out of 10 and I recommend it too.

Looking for Alibrandi, an amazing book featuring many insights of life. I have read this book three times and not once get bored. I can relate to many things, like on racism, different ways of life and living with exectaions and rules. My favourite character is ALibrandi, because sometimes I feel her pain and happiness but at some times she can be disrespectful and unloyal to the eldest. John Barton was an interesting character he was kind of an mysterious person but when you read about him he sounds like a very opening even though he sounds trapped. I wish he never did what he did and I reckon that the author wrote this on purpose to make drama…………OVERALL it is a fantastic and a stunning book to read highly recommended 🙂

The book Looking for Alibrandi is about an year 12 student whose Mother went through a teenage pregnancy and her Italian Grandmother is very disapproving of most things she does. Josephine Alibrandi is the main character and she hates being Italian, and all the things that come along with it. She is a Scholarship Student and because of this she feels as though people think she is to poor or unworthy to go to the ‘posh’ school. Not to mention her love life is a wreck. This book is written beautifully and really shows things from Josie’s perspective. My favourite part of the book is when you find out Nonna’s big secret. It is really shocking and you just can’t put the book down. My favourite character is Josie’s Mum. Although Josie puts her through hell she is always loving and caring towards Josie. I would recommend this book to people aged 12 and above. It is a really good read and I read it from cover to cover with ease.

I really liked the book looking for Alibrandi because it was written in a way that it was easy for the reader to understand. i was immediately sucked into the book as soon as i started reading it and didn’t want to put it down. I especially like the book because unlike most books it didn’t slow down in the middle but was interesting from cover to cover. my favourite character was Josie’s mum because she was so kind hearted to others no matter what they had done to her. i would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a meaningful easy read novel.

Josie is a very courageous girl but has to learn to keep her mouth shut. This book is about learning to accept yourself and your heritage. I recommend this book to anyone who is doubting the way they feel about them selves. I rate this book 9/10 and think it is beautifully written.

Josephine Alibrandi is finally discovering herself in her final year at a wealthy year, the exact same time her disappearing father returns and her love life starts to blossom. Looking for Alibrandi is a very appealing, interesting and overall great book for all girls in high school.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I didn’t know about it before I had to read it for school but I am so glad I was asked to read it because it is such a great book!! I found that I was able to relate to a lot of things but there were also things that I wasn’t able to relate to.
This book is all about Josephine’s life throughout her last year at school and how different changes and secrets from the past rise to change perspectives and outcomes for everyone.
My favourite character was Christina, the mother of Josephine. I thought her life was very tough yet she put all of her love and faith into her daughter’s life making sure it wouldn’t turn out like hers had previously.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone in high school who is looking for a great, simple yet captivating book. The ending will shock all, proving it to be a great book!!

I recommend looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta. I recommend this book because it is about a girl that is from an ethnic background and she is friends with other ‘different’ people. Alibrandi goes through her life not knowing her Father, not knowing her past and having little idea about why she is being treated differently to everyone else. My favourite part in the book is when all of Alibrandi’s family are squeezing the tomatoes and making spaghetti sauce. This is my favourite because they are all together and are all enjoying each others company and having fun. This book shows that if some people are different or have problems at home they need to do whatever they can to work them out and to find a solution for them. I recommend this book for years 8-12. I think this because these are the ages when people are the most mature and they can relate to the book the most.

I liked this book, but this film was alright because some of the elements weren’t well presented. My favourite part was when Josephine, mother and grandma all know what has happened and then their relationship is all good as before Josephine would hate going over to grandma’s as she was always bossy. Josie is my favourite character because she is understanding, caring and funny with her thoughts that go through her head at some moments. My least favourite part is when John Barton commits suicide and dies, which is the main part i would change because he was really important to Josie. People who like drama would like this book because something always happens, unexpected things and funny things happen as well.

Some girls dont like where they are from but gradually they learn to love there culture and traditions. Josie had overcome a lot and she understood alot about her family through her schooling years Looking for Alibrandi was exciting and thrilling in pars but a good story of the average teenage girl who had family issuses.

I really enjoyed reading ‘Looking for Alibrandi’. Josephine overcame many problems throughout this book and it was easy to understand what she was going through. It would probably be easier to relate to if I was in Year 12 like Josephine, but this book still gives you a good insight to what it is like to be 17. I think the author has portrayed Josie really well and given her a good personality, making it an interesting read. I would recommend this book to girls aged 13+.

Looking for Alibrandi is an amazing book!! Josie (Josephine) is an Italian girl, who lives in Australia and she never feels like she belongs, year 12 must have been the worst year of her life! She suffers tomato day, breaking noses, boyfriend troubles, the death of a loved one, reuniting with the father she always hated and never even knew and sitting through lectures from one of the sisters at st Martha’s. This is one of my all time favourite books, it’s a book I can relate to so much, as I am Italian. I absolutely love the way this book is written, it makes you really feel empathy for Josie and you can really put yourself in the story. I think that Josie is such a strong character, she really thinks about other people and how she would feel if she were in their situation. I highly recommend this book, trust me you don’t know what you’re missing out on!!

When i read this book i was still in primary school, while i still understood and enjoyed the book i think it is suited for an older age reader in high school just because it is all about the stuff you probably learn more in high school rather than primary school. I personally really enjoyed this book but the one thing that let me down was the way they lacked expressing Josie’s emotions throughout her year. Also a lot was going on throughout her year so it was a bit hard to really focus on a problem because in the next chapter a new one was introduced. Besides those it was a good book and has lots of different emotions to please everyone. 12+

Once you have disected and read and re-read everysingle page of this book, pulled it apart and disected a little more and put back together again, in Year 8 English, there isn’t much else you can say about this book, except its’ a great book, so thick in culture and romance. This story take you alongside a girl like so many others girls these days, rich with Italian heritage, and the trouble she goes through to be accepted as a normal person. It really is a good book, however many times you read it, you always feel intruiged by her spirit and personality which put a bright spin on her last year of high school. With an excellent storyline and colourful characters, this book deserves a 9/10, probably for readers about age 12 or 13 onwards. It relates all to anyone struggleing to break from forceful families and tough rules. Great read

Looking for Alibrandi was such an emotional book, with so many unexpected events. I love how Melina marchetta portrays Josie as a 17 year old italian australian trying to fit in with the popular group but acting like she doesn’t care, Josie is easy to relate to and Melina explains her emotions in an easy to understand way.
I would recommend this book to people of all ages I think people around the age of 17 would relate to it best but it is a great interesting book for all ages.

This book is about a seventeen year old girl, josie who thinks her life is horrible. As the book progresses tho we realise that she is not that bad and she learns through some tough expiriences that her life is not as bad as some others. SHe grows as a person along with her mother, nonna and friends.i found this book very interesting because it is about different cultures and family problems that i can relate to. I would recomend this book to anyone who has a culture or who is embarised my ther family history. It will teach you to love your family, your culture and you life in general.

I read ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ this term for english. I really enjoyed reading this novel because it was very interesting and a lot happened. The novel was all about the main character, Josephine Alibrandi’s journey of self discovery. Josephine learns a lot throughout the novel and we also learn a lot from Josephine’s lessons along the way. I would highly recommend this book to anyone whether you enjoy reading or not because there is something in this book for everyone. I have enjoyed studying and reading this book this term.

Looking for Alibrandi was one of the best books I have ever read! It is all about a girl named Josie who is Italian and feels as though she doesn’t fit in with anyone. She feels like she has a large weight on her shoulders that will never go away! Josie lives in Sydney and is in her last year at St Martha’s, a posh school. She is only there because she got a scolarship, unlike the other rich girls. This book addresses many issues and teenage issues we face nowdays, such as racism, peer pressure, depression and single parents. Once you start, I guarantee that you will not be able to put it down. I would give this book a 10 out of 10 and I would reccomend it to anyone over the age of 13.

i thought this book was great. The passion that Josie has for her cultural identity is inspiring. I loved how Josie’s Mama was so strong bringing Josie up all by herself. Josie has a hard time fitting in at her School because she is there on a scholarship and on top of that is Italian. I recommend this book to people ages 12 to 18.

Josie Albrandi is 17, a cheeky, vivacious and very intelligent teenage girl doing her last year at St Martha’s Ladies College. This book is about the struggles of family, love and life and all the other things along the way. It is a beautifully written book and when you read it you will find yourself on a roller coaster of emotions and your heart will warm to all of the characters.

Josie is in her final year at St Marthas college in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, she encounters many challenges during this year and discovers herself and where she stands in society. Cutural identity is also a major aspect of the book. This book is an easy read and i enjoyed the story. i recommend it to ages 12 to 16 🙂

Josie goes through a lot and she finds out how important her family and culture is.

one other book i would recommend to read is looking for alibrandi. I think you have to read it in year 8 or nine but even in your spare time you should get to sit down and just have a read of it and i think anyone would enjoy it, it is also available from the linc and i think it is a movie aswell. it is just about a teenager going through her life with a few difficulties in her path. Its great to watch/read. i think anyone from 8+ should read it or watch it. xxx

I was really putting off reading Looking for Alibrandi but had to read t for school but when I started reading it I had totally changed my mind. The book is about a girl name Josephine who is 17 years old and from an Italian background that she is embarrassed about. She is at high school and this year her life will become very interesting. It really is one big adventure where she has to face the ups and the downs of life. She has never meet her Dad and goes to her Grandmas house after to school who Josephine thinks is crazy. A big secret is revealed and her life goes on a great adventure. I definatley recommend you reading this book as it give you an insight into Josphines life as a Italian background and how she copes with circumstances in her life. This book is a mixture of Love and friendship. It can make you laugh in some parts but then can make you cry. I would definatley recommend you reading this book and give it a try before you judge. You might even surprise yourself and like like me! I rate this 4/5. So if you are looking for a good book grab this book now!!! 🙂

If you have not read this book, i would suggest that you borrow it from the library right away. I love this book because it seems so realistic and would be able to relate to many people. My favourite character is Jacob Coote because in the book, he is so free spirited and doesn’t care what people think of him, which is what most people should be like. My favourite part in this book would probably be when Josie meets her father and doesn’t know how to act. This is because she said she had planned out what she was going to say to him but she said something totally different, which is exactly what we do in real life. The worst part in the book would be when Josie’s ex-next door neighbour torments her after work. This is because he doesn’t have the right to speak to her the way he did because it was very mean and uncalled for.
I recommend this book to everyone because it is very detail and includes a range of differend emotions that you the reader feel yourself. Once again, if you haven’t read this book, START READING 🙂

I was horrified. Do I really have to read such a boring looking book?! Looking For Alibrandi looked like the most boring novel to exist.(Well, maybe not the worst~.^)But once I bothered to sit down and try reading it, I couldn’t pull myself away. It’s intriguiging adventures, twists and plots were amazing, each turn making my heart beat uncontrollably. Josephine Alibrandi, a 17 year old woman on a soul search, or in other words, a search to find herself. She is living with her mama and her grandma close by. Josie despises her grandma because she is constantly speaking badly about her mama. It is when Michael Andretti, her father whom she has never met, comes into her life that the changes of Josephine Alibrani take place. She meets a boy named Jacob Coote and they get into a relationship. Her friend John is in a sticky situation with liking what life has been set for him and a father finally in her life. Things are looking so bright when everything starts to go down-hill. Why did this happen?! Love, friendship, comedy, tragedy. This is, Looking For Alibrandi.

Josie has never met her father because he left before Josie’s mother gave birth to her. In her last year of high school her dad turns up. At first this scares Josie, but having her dad turn up could be one of the best things for her. Aged 17 she experiences grief, love, failure, triumph and commitment.

Looking for alibrandi is a touching novel about the life of Josephine Alibrandi. I really enjoyed how Melina Marchetta portrayed Josie and put pure emotion into the character.
Josie is a 17 year old girl who retells her life during her final year at school in Sydney. Josie has many problems-or so she thinks. She is illegitamite, Italian and on a scholarship at a rich, posh school. Josie thinks the world is going against her until she meets Jacob Coote. Jacob helps her see that she is not that troubled and there are many worse things that could happen. Josie also experiences many new friendships, ideas, responsibilities and family issues.
I really loved this book for it passion and devotion to life and i would recommend it to any one of all ages!

When her father pops up at her grandmothers house when josephine is there, she is surprised and realizes that the father she has been imagining all along is completely different to the one who is standing before her. She has many difficulties and restraints in her life but with the help and the influence of many events and people in her life, she learns a lot more about herself and understands herself and life much better. She also learns that her life isn’t as bad as she says. Throughout the year Josie learns many new things and understands a lot more about herself and her life.

“Looking for Alibrandi” is a great book, with many twists and turns. The book is about a girl Josephine, who is slowly making her way through year 12. Throughout the book Josie over comes problems with boyfriends, family and all those sorts of things that many of us can relate to. One of her biggest obstacles along the way is the death of one of her really close mates. Another thing that effects Josie is her long lost father comes back into her life. These things set Josephine back but yet she still makes a good comeback and manages to finish year 12.

I can honestly say that this book is a fantastic read! This was the chosen year eight novel and i enjoyed it heaps.
The novel ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ is about a 17 year old girl, named Josephine Alibrandi. She is an Australian with an Italian background. Throughout the novel she creates many new relationships, such as Jacob Coote and many others. In the novel there are some sad times, some happy times, some excitng times and also some very truthful times. Josephine experiences alot throughout her last year of HSC, and i think that she is looking forward to alot in the future.
What can I say, Josephine lives with her mother but every afternoon after school she visits her grandmothers. She does not like this very much as there are many conflicts in the novel. Josephine has to live with a single mother, a protective grandmother and no father, sometimes during this novel she gets confused and that is why she is ‘looking for alibrandi.’

I just read a book named ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ for my English class. I must say by reading the blurb I was not looking forward to reading it, but once I did I didn’t want to stop. It is about girl by the name of Josephine Alibrandi, a seventeen year-old girl who is in her last year at her wealthy Catholic school. Throughout the year, she faces many difficulties and challenges as well as joys and reliefs of growing up and becoming an adult. With an absent father, an overprotective and grandmother and single mother she is struggling to find, who she really is, what she wants to be and how she is going to do it. This book is a amazing book which could teach a lesson to teenagers, like us about looking forward to the future, planning and relationships – how some can evolve and some can die. I recommend this book to anyone which likes novels for older readers, with a serious plot and a great ending.

I just read an amazing book called looking for Alibrandi. The story line was about an Italian girl called Josephine Alibrandi living in an Australian community who is trying to find herself for the rest of her years. She goes through many different experiences and mistakes through her HSC year that help her to find her own yellow brick road. Josephine faces the return of her Father, the man that caused it all. She is also faced with her Nonna’s history and the way her Nonna lived back in her days and is also faced with love and friendships. In the beginning she is a snobby and self- centered girl who lacks upper- class privileges like money, late curfews and popularity. This intereferes with her life because of the school she is attending of rich people who are able to afford alot in life and get everything that they want.
I really enjoyed this book because it gave me the feeling that people can change themselves and who they are for the rest of their lives because of a few experiences and people returning in their life.
I would reccomend this book to people who are feeling a bit lost in life and don’t know which path to take. To all those people who have another background other than Australian who are livng in Australian community and finding it fairly difficult to cope and fit in.

Looking for Alibrandi is a wonderful book about a teenagers life. I love this book, I could read it over and over again and still love it.
It is about a girl, Josphine Alibrandi, who goes through the twist and turns of finding herself at the age of 17yrs. She is from an Italian background and often gets teased for not having a father and being Italian.
She comes accross as having boy problems and just many problems in general. I cry every time I read when John Barton commits suicide, it is so sad.
Eventually she meets her father and begins a new relationship with him. He is nothing as she expected but still finds a spot in her heart fo him.

Because she is an Australian Italian, because she isn’t rich, and because she doesn’t know her father, she isn’t accepted.

When Josie’s dad comes back, she is angry and doesn’t like him, but as time goes on, she grows closer to him.

This is a fantastic book and I would recommend to everyone. Even though we are reading it for Year 8 english class, it is still an interesting, funny book about a teenage girl growing up.
Josephine Alibrandi is 17 and it is her final year at St Martha’s, a very wealthy catholic school. This is the year where everything matters, where she needs to be emancipated. Josie is Italian- Australian with an annoying Nonna, a strict mama and who has never met her father. But this is the year that all changes. In this book Josie experiences love, loss and where she finally learns the truth.

Looking for Alibrandi is about 17 year old Josephine Alibrandi who is in her final year at St Martha’s Catholic college, in sydney. Josie got into St Marthas on an English scholarship so she feels different to everyone else. Meanwhile she has to deal with her father who she has never met coming to town, 2 boys fighting to get her attention and coming to terms with her Italian Heritage.
I must say i didn’t really enjoy this book but maybe thats because Josie is the kind of person i avoid in life because she is always complaining about something and has a poor me attitude.
I would rate this book a 2/5 because I couldn’t relate to Josie. But i would recommend it because it is really well written.

I didn’t want this book to finish! i loved every minute of it. I’m sure every girl can relate to Alibrandi in their own way and i definitely did. I would recommend it to all the girls who are looking to read something with a bit of everything. Josie still doesn’t know exactly what she wants out of life. Year 12 is the time to start searching. who is Alibrandi? well… read this book and all your questions shall be answered!

This book is great. A seventeen girl called Josephine is in her final year of school at St Martha’s Catholic College. She lives in Sydney.
At the end of six she got a “English Scholarship” for the school. Josie fells different to all the other girls at the school because she on a scholarship and she has Italian background. During this year Josie finds the boy of her dreams, her Dad that left when her Mum was pregnant came back into her life and secrets and tragedies happen.
This book is great i really think you should read it. At the start it is bit boring, but dot stop because it gets better. if like really books about someones life this is a good one.

This book is fab and totally deserved to be made into a movie. I read it in Year 7 without knowing and now we are doing it for english this year which is good.
The story is about Josie Alibrandi- daughter of Christina and Micheal, granddaughter of Katia. She is laybels all the time of being an Italian but then is called an Australian. Josie is sick of being told who she is but doesn’t know who SHE is anymore so she has to work it out. From boys to friends to suprises to Tomato Day the book has everything and anyone would enjoy it.
I can’t relate at all- My family has been Australian for generations but it’s very interesting to read about the different culture.
The book it so well written and I love the bit at the end where she says all her names from the past, present and future.

Josephine Alibrandi is a 17 year old girl who lives with her mother. She doesnt know her father but near the start if the book she meets him fir the first time. Josephine meets a boy named Jacob Coote, they are a very old couple. They fight a lot but they always get through them. Josie goes to a very rich school but she is on a scholarship. Josie is also vice captain of her school.
I loved this book it was really good. From when i started reading it I couldnt put it down I loved it that much, i would recommend this book for girls 13-15 because they will really enjoy it 🙂

i read it this year for english and i could not put it down.
Josie is an Italian which goes threw alot of problems whilst she is at school, she falls in love with a boy from Cook high called Jacob Coote. they go threw a few fights but they are perfect together. John Barton is another boy in the story neaer the end something really bad happens to him and i cried 😦 then i cried after something happened with Josie and Jacob.
i would recomend this book to anyone, it is really goood 🙂

This has to be one of my favourite books ever! I’m not sure why I loved it so much, it was different from a lot of the books I usually read. Maybe that’s why I loved it?
It is about a girl named Josephine who learns a lot of lessons and through-out the story, eventually finds out who she is. At the beginning, she is unsure of wheather she is an Italian, an Australian or in between. She faces many problems, but dosn’t let them bring her down and that is what I liked about her character.
She is constantly arguing with her Mama and Nonna, but towards the end, begins to understand them more and respect them.
This is a really good book that tells us about how hard it is to find out who you are, but when you find out, the reward is irreplaceable.
It is full of happy parts that make you smile, sad parts that make your insides drop and funny parts that make you laugh!
I recommend this book because it is a great read!

The book that i would recommend Looking for Alibrandi, it is a really great book about a young teenage girl Josie. Josie has a very strong Italian background, her Nonna is very strict and only wants osie to date Italian boys, but when she starts to go out with Jacob Coote Josie is scared she will not approve of Jacob. Josie finds it very hard to fit in at school because she is always reminded of her background by other students. I think that you will really enjoy this book so give it a go.

I recommend “Looking For Alibrandi” by Melina Marchetta.
This book is about a Italian/Australian girl who goes to a all girls catholic school on scholarship, the girls who go to this schoool are all pretty rich. Josephine has a mother but no father, her mother Christina is in her young 30’s and had Josie when she was quite young, Josi’s in her last year of school and wants to become a lawyer. As you read the book you uncover many secrets that should be kept as secrets, including; her nonna’s past and Josie will meet her father and get to know him.
I recommend this book to teenager’s, not primary school age. If you read it, I hope you enjoy it.

I have just finished reading looking for Alibrandi. I loved this book and i thought it was good because the problems that Josie goes through are so realistic. She had a Nonna which is really over protective. Her mother and Nonna don’t get along very well so she does find it very difficult. She has a few boy problems cause she can’t choose between John or Jacob. I really enjoyed reading this book and i’m sure everybody else would!!

Melina Marchetta is a brilliant author. She makes it seem as though you are josephine Alibrandi.
Josephine Alibrandi is a 17 year old girl that feels embarrassed by her italian culture. She goes to St. Martha’s a rich catholic all girls school. She is a scholarship student and feels left out. In her last year at school she falls in love and finds her dad and figures out who she is in life.
I can relate to Josie in a way because i have grandparents that think they have a say in my life!! Just like Josies nonna my grandparents are always interfering with what i do.

I have finished reading this book and it was really good and i enjoyed it. Josephine Alibrandi is a seventeen year old who is apart of an Italian family. She lives with her single mother Christina. Looking for Alibrandi is written by Melina Marchetta. The story is about josephines experiences at school, and her relationships with her family and friends during her last year at St. martha’s girls school. The book is mainly for teenagers. In the book Josephine finds out many things about her family that she had not known before, she also falls in love with Jacob Coote and she loves her friends.In her final year of high school, Josie’s father comes back into her life, she falls in love, discovers secrets of her family’s past and her friend commits suicide. Josephines mother fell pregnant at an early age and ended up a single parent and her grandmother had an affair when she was young and produced Josie’s mother. Throughout the novel, Josie struggles to balance the control of her Italian background with the freedom of Australia today. I really enjoyed the novel, because I could relate to it, and because I learned from it. Josephine has never met her father but she has heard about him from what her mother has told her. Suddenly her father comes back into town and back into her life. Neither Josephine nor her father made a good impression on each other. After they met each other, they make a promise to stay out of each other’s lives. They kept the promise until Josephine hit a girl in the face with a book and needs her dad to come help her get out of trouble. Since that day, Josephine and her dad’s relationship started to grow into a sort of friendship. At the same time Josephine is becoming closer to her grandmother. Once her grandmother starts to tell Josephine about her past, Josephine starts to become interested in learning more and more about her grandmother. I think she started to realize that she is a lot like her grandmother was at her age. I love this book and it is good and i would rate it four star because of the great depth of detail in the book and the great storyline.A Beautifully written book !.

Looking for Alibrandi is about a girl named Josephine Alibrandi who lives with her mother Christina, a single mother who is always critisized by her very traditional italian mother (Josephine’s nonna) on how to raise a good grandaughter. Josephine is a intelligent and brilliant girl who attends a wealthy Catholic school St Martha’s in which she is on a scholarship. Josie is Vice captain of the school and is in her last year, taking HSC’s. At this school Josie feels as though she doesnt belong in a school such like St Martha’s. Its all about the money, high socialists, prestige and what your father works as, things that Josephine doesnt have.
This is year Josephine’s father comes into her life, after a long 18 years in waiting for him to come, Josephine finds loves and chooses between boys in which are right for her sense of being. This book is really good. I loved it!!

i love this book so much that i have read it 6 times. we are now doing it in english. i thought the book had a really good beginning as it made the reader believe that she was in some sort of maths test. (i hate those A,B,C,D questions on a maths test because you work out the answer and then when your answer isnt there you have no clue what to do) i love jacob Coote!!! and i so wanted them to be together! but i am really disappointed because i have been told that jacob is really ugly in the movie. i love Anton for his sweetheart personality and kindness. i enjoyed the part when Jacob and Anton rescue Josie and Anna from Greg simms.
it has a really good twist at the end that shows who Josie really is. but i could see john Barton committing suicide right from the beginning but was still disappointed when he did. once you have read the book and know that he commits suicide, the clues throughout the book jump out at you.
when you’re lost for a good book, just pick up this one.

Her mother who fell pregent at the age of sixteen with the boy next door and Josephine have been living life with out Josephine’s father for eighteen years so when he moves to Sdyney how is Josephine meant to react? Looking for Alibrandi is one of my favourite books. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a great book. I thought that this book was capturing and really related to my age group.
Josie is a 17-year-old girl who really does not know where she stands. Her family is Italian and are very strong about their culture and their back round. Half way through her last year and meets her father that she has never met before. Josie has many friends including Sera, Anna and Lee and forms a great bond with her all time crush John Barton. On the way she gets her first boyfriend Jacob Coote and finds out how hard, it is to have a boyfriend. This book explains how Josie changes over the book and how her life perspectives change.
I would recommend this book to any one how loves a great read, but maybe only if you are in year 7 up.

This is a great and easy read. It is about a girl, Josie, and how she attends a high school on a scholarship. She has a group of friends who are diffrent from each other. She is in her last year of high and not only does she have to worry about her HSC but her father that she has never met before has come back to sydney to stay. She is also having trouble working out which boy is right for her. At the end she finds out who she really is.

A really good book that I have just read is Looking for Alibrandi. It is about a girl who has never met her father before because he moved to Adelaide before she was even born. Ever since then Josephine (the main character) and her mother have been living in a flat near Sydney. She attends a private school named St Martha’s where she has an English scholarship because her mother can’t afford to pay her fees. St Martha’s is a very expensive private school and a lot of the students there cause her grief. This story starts off as a typical school journey until things begin happening that she would never have thought possible.
I really like this book because it talks about how she copes through all of her tough times and relates to some of the things that we may have to go through later in life.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in reading about the persons struggles through life and the way they cope with it.

Looking For Alibrandi is a fantastic book it shows us how different people and familys live and how they are. I loved this book when i started reading it i could not stop.
Josephine is a 17 year old girl and is close to her mum. She is intelligent, and assertive but a tad cheeky sometimes. Josephine is half italian and half australian. Her nonna wants her to marry a italian guy but she does not wont to. I recommend this book to anyone. Now i am going to leave it up to you to read it and see what happens.

osie (Josephine Alabrandi) is 17 years old and attends a wealthy catholic school (St. Martha’s) she’s in amongst her final year and she is one of the scholarship students. She shares a small house with her mum and they have an italiann background. Josie has a great qualtiy group of friends all different and individual in their own way, there’s Anna, Sera and Lee. She also has a sort of enemy aka Poison Ivy (Ivy).Looking for alibrandi is a great book, full of interesting events, drama, suspense, romance, humor and maturity. I think i would recomend it from 12 and up. Persnally I really enjoyed it and have read it a few times because the Year 8’s are almost beginning our topic on this story so I’m very excited 🙂

Looking for Alibrandi is a great book about a girl named Josephine Alibrandi who is trying to find her place in life. She has to deal with racism, her nonna, boys, friends who are sometimes against you and much more. I love this book because it is about a normal life, all the characters are steriotyped and a bit over the top but i love that because it can be a good laugh and you can always relate to one of the characters in one way or the other. I reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a good, quick read. I wouldn’t change a thing in this book because it is perfect in it’s own little ways, it funny, sad, exciting, suspenceful and everything else you want in a book.

She has grown up with a strict mum and Nonna and on top of that she is always getting into trouble with the nuns at school. She now has to decide between Jacob; who is loud, rides a motorbike and says what he thinks, even if it is rude and obnoxious, and John; who is smart and sensible but is troubled and secretive. There is never a dull moment with Josie and on top of everything else she finds her father who she has never known. She forms a strong bond with him and he helps her through her close friends suicide. I can’t really relate to this book because I have never had to deal with racism or suicide before, but I know I never want to. This book is gripping and I couldn’t put it down.

I just read a brilliant book named Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta. Josie is a scholarship girl who attends a high class catholic school named St Marthas. Everyday she deals with racism. Josie has her own group of friends who are all very diverse and opinionated. Josie lives at home with her single mother who is constantl judged by her Nonna Katia. Josie often feels like she hates her Nonna, but she live controls her temper and remembers that she loves her.
Josie has boy troubles. Shes has to chooses between the rough around the edges cook high school captain, or the wealthy private school capatain. Who will she choose?
If I could change one thing in this book it would be NOTHING! This book is funny, sad and quirky, all at the same time. I strongly reccomend this for anybody looking for a quick read.
