One Life to One Dawn.

In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad’s dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph’s reign of terror once and for all.

Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. But something she never expected begins to happen: Khalid is nothing like what she’d imagined him to be. This monster is a boy with a tormented heart. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It’s an unforgivable betrayal. Still, Shahrzad has come to understand all is not as it seems in this palace of marble and stone. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid’s life as retribution for the many lives he’s stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

  1. The Wrath and the Dawn is such a different book compared to any other book that I have read. At first, I wasn’t too sure about it but it had me hooked by the first chapter. This book has an interesting story line with Shahrzad, who is hung up on bringing justice for Shiva, by marrying the one and only merciless King who is Khalid. These two polar opposites are brought together but have more in common then meets the eye. Secrets are unraveled, emotions are let loose, stories are shared and emotional walls are broken. With many twists and turns, it keeps you on the edge of your seat, and reveals that this isn’t your average story. I absolutely loved this book, it was so different and unique compared to the other books, that I read, where I could start to easily predict what was about to happen. In this book, anything could happen and some unexpected things do happen which can change your mind in a heartbeat on a character, theory about someone or just what you thought was happening in the first place. I would give this book a 10 out of 10 because even though I have read it before, I always find my self reading it again. ❤

  2. THE WRATH AND THE DAWN BY RENEE AHDIEH is a very unique fantasy book. It introduces an entire different world with a very interesting plot line. Me, being of South Asian descent, found this book to reflect very well on trying to create new and different environments. The naming of all these characters were all so unique and creative and blended with the story. The magic in this book was brief but it was already telling a story which had so much depth. Khalid is known as the King of Kings who has no mercy. He is known as this scary and monstrous king who reigns above everyone. Shazi just lost her best friend because Khalid, who mysteriously kills all his wives at dawn every time he gets married. She is determined to have her vengeance and make sure Khalid pays for the blood that he has shed. Shazi is a strong, empowering and persistent character who represents Young Adult fiction with such integrity. This book was not all action and old tales, it is also romantic and makes all your emotions wild. This novel is a must read and I rate it 96%.
