The blog for books and movies

The Famous Five are a group of children who have the sort of adventures most kids dream about,

in a world where ginger beer flows and ham rolls are a staple diet. Julian, Dick and Anne get together with their cousin George in the first adventure, Five On A Treasure Island.

George is actually a girl who wants so desperately to be a boy she crops her hair and struts about doing boy things.

She hates it when people call her by her correct name, Georgina.

She has a dog called Timmy—oh yes, and an island.

Most kids just have a dog, but George’s parents own Kirrin Island and let her run around on it as if it were her play-thing.

Her parents are known to Julian, Dick and Anne as Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny.

I have read the whole series of these books many times, they are so interesting and I never put them down until the end of the book. This book is an action book and is about 5 kids who are always finding themselves in adventure without even meaning to. They discover so many things such as treasure, gold and many other important things. They have the cutest little sidekick that helps them through everything and protects them. This is a mystery book and it always keeps me interested this would be a great book for kids from 10 years old, even younger where parents could read it to them. These are one of my favourite series of books and my younger brother has also read it many times, he never puts the books down. Honestly read this book you won’t regret it and it will have you interested from the start, you will never put this book down until it is finished.

  2. I loved all of the famous five books! They are such fun stories full of adventures. They are a little bit old fashioned in some of their language, but that adds to the fun of the kids adventures. I could never pick a favourite character, but I do love George’s adventurous nature, even if her mouth gets her into trouble sometimes.
My favourite Famous five book would have to be Five go to Smugglers Top, just because of the element of mystery and suspense throughout the whole novel. Personally I don’t think you need to read the books in order, but some of the books make more sense if you have read the ones before it.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants an easy read that’s full of adventure.

The famous five, where do I start? This book is packed, absoulutely PACKED with fun, adventure, and mystery. In all twenty one of these stories the cousins always find an adventure, mystery, or escapade to fix, explore or solve. My favourite character would definetly be George, because she is really cool, and she’s really fierce and she stands up for herself, and people like that are good people to be around. I remember reading this series in year three, and not being able to put it down! If you love action packed books that have a lot of adventure, and mischeif then definetly add this to your bookshelf because you will enjoy it, I loved this series and would give it a 10 out of 10.

  4. I love The Famous Five! They are short books but there is a supply of them so the fun never runs out! These books are about Julian, Dick , Anne, their cousin George and her dog Timmy. The Famous Five is just a series that has adventure and fun written all over it.
I always dreamed of joining them on one of their awesome journeys especially if it was at Kirrin Island. These children always found trouble but somehow manage to get out of it. I would recommend this to kids as it’s a great series by Enid Blyton and I would rate it 9/10.

They are old books but old books can still be good books. They are for the younger age but then any one can read them. I wish some thing liked that happened to me once to have a good story to tell and not the same one every time like nan. I will give it an 9/10 and the people who will like this book will probably be people who like a bit of adventure.

  9. I really enjoy reading the Famous Five series because it’s about two boys, two girls and a dog who go on many interesting adventures together! It’s great because you never know what is going to happen and the author chooses some great adventures. I haven’t completed the series yet but I think its amazing so far and I can’t wait to read the rest! The two boys in the book are called Julian and Dick and the two girls are called Anne and George and of course they have their gorgeous dog timmy who belongs to George (Her name is actually Georgina but she prefers George). George is the other three’s cousin and they catch up on as many holidays as they can and every time they do it is an adventure! I rate the series a 9/10 because of how interesting it is an I couldn’t put it down because it was so interesting. I recommend it for all age groups!!

  11. Best book in the ‘Famous Five’ series!
I haven’t read it in a long time but I do own it and I do love it.
It’s so simple and easy to read. Three loving siblings- Julian, Dick and Anne meet there cousin George (or Georgina). She doesn’t think they are good enough for her, in particular Anne as she’s such a girl.
But slowly they all begin to get to know each other and, plus George’s dig Timmy, solve mysteries! Wooooooooooo!!!! Basically, this book is where ’saved the day’ comes through.
When you read it try and figure out what’s going on before you get to the end. It seems pretty hard but when you read to the end and you haven’t guessed it, it seems easy!
    You’ll like it. I did.
